What if you took a small amount of vaseline and rubbed on your fingers. Then smoothed it on to the piece with your fingers? Would that not completely cover the part?

yeah, it seemed the last time I used a q-tip to rub the vaseline, it gaumed up the cotton and made it into a blob.

Haha, nice  :P

I can't wait to see how this guy turns out Phruby!  It seems like a lot of work, but when you pull it off, it will definitely be worth it.

Phruby - if you don't mind my asking, about how much did you end up spending to get your initial "batch" of casting supplies?  I've been wanting to get into casting for a while now, but I'm not sure how much of an initial investment it will cost me.
The scariest thing that I've ever seen,
Is the terrible AT-AT walking machine.
It's as big as a house on walking legs,
and whatever it steps on it crushes like eggs.

No to usurp Phruby's estimate but I seem to recall that the silicone that I purchased was about $25 and the resin was also about $25.  I bought them from two different sources but I seem to recall they were in that basic price range.

Here is an update on my Scorch. First thing I did was split the casted torso in half and then drilled out the insides. I tried to make it as thin as possible to fit on the MM body.

Then I decided that in order to hide the joints better, I gave him a balloon body glove. It also a better surface to glue to armor on to withour worring about gluing a joint together. The glove arms are a little loose but that will be hidden when the armor is placed on.

Finally, I went ahead and painted the base cote of the chest armor and added some sculpty to the sides to make it connect all the way around. I need to fix some of the sculpty on the right side since it cracked when I cured it.

I drilled a hole in the casted helmet so see how the head will fit.

After seeing how the helmet looks on the body, I've decided to make a cast of Commander Cody's head and hollow out the casted helmet.

So as you can see, he is coming along slowly but surely.

Wow Phruby... you really do like to try out new ideas.  Very cool... this is something I don't think I'd have the patience for.  Looking forward to the end result!

Lookin good Phruby Lookin real good.

So far this little experiment of yours is yeilding some great success. I love that trick with the balloons. It actually looks like the body glove that troopers wear.

This thing is going to rock when its done.

This is coming along great phurby.
Casting opens up alot of options now, doesn it?
I really like the armor and helmet cast. Cant wait to see cody's head on him.
You should try the removable helmet technique.
It will be easier than hollowing out the helmet.
Now that you are Mastering casts, it will be a breeze.

Great work.

Your idea of cutting up the casted pieces was a great one. It's much easier to cut them up and not have to worry about mistakes.

I'm going to do the removable helmet technique. Can you post again how it is done? I'm not thilled with the helmet right now.
