Just sent out the email for the work hockey pool that I run.  I can hardly wait until the complaints and stupid comments start rolling in.  The biggest one last year was that I didn't bring a player list for everyone to the draft.   ::)

I got all excited about the start of fantasy hockey tonight - only to check my team this morning and find that I have exactly ONE player going this evening.

Oh well.

Yeah, it's pretty slim pickings and doesn't really wind up until Saturday.  Last year's first day was unusual and they wanted to ride the return of hockey pretty badly.  This year though it's only three months and change since the season ended, so no real need.

Only 8 of us in our work pool this year (down from 14 - many felt it required too much attention to play this kind of pool ::)).  We run 6 F, 3 D, 1 G, 2 bench and 1 IR.  Just G/A for skaters; W/L/SO for goalies.  82 game cap.  The rosters are pretty amazing really and the point totals should be cool to see.  My roster:

Dany Heatley (don't worry, I took him with the 7th pick this time)
Marian Hossa
Niklas Lidstrom
Scott Niedermayer
Patrik Elias
Sergei Zubov
Marian Gaborik
Martin Brodeur
Mark Bell
Mike Modano
Martin Havlat
Henrik Lundquist

Should be interesting.  I started the run on D-men and to my surprise, the guys picking after me ignored it and I was able to scoop Niedermayer right after Lidstrom 8)

I was just perusing the stats for the league and this is going to be fun, much more so than just straight points leagues I think.  But I can already say that the PIM setting is much, much better than we had in the spawn league I was in last year.  Cole has an assist and 4 PIM and I immediately expected to see 3 points in the total column but only saw 1.8.  Much better being at 0.2 rather than 0.5.  Adds a nice dimension too.

One annoying aspect will be if you have too many guys on one team and their goalie though.  If they get blown out 7-0 and you have two guys and the goalie, you could really lose a whack of points in one night.   ;D

And in a stunning effort to emphasize my above point, I ended up on the negative side of the points scheme tonight, eating into last night's total as well :o :'(

Shutouts will bite hard if you're on the losing team.

Imagine having two guys who play on the same line and then having them be -3 for the night.

This is fun though - at one point I was tied for last, then I was in first, then third, then first, and now second.

Lots of up and downs with the negative points so easy to come by here.

Or, maybe your stud ends up on the ice for 4 of the 5 goals against you:

-3.60 from my #1 pick tonight.   ::)

Jason goes to first place with 16 points last night.  I drop from first to second last and have less points than I would have if I hadn't started anybody at all, dropping four points total.  Yeowch.

Going to be some wacky-ass thought going into managing a team this year.

No, that would be me.  My team has 19 points now to your 23.  My guys are -6 for the season and haven't scored hardly any points since that first big night.

Whooo hooo - out of the basement and into 7th place after a 18 point night - almost doubled my score.
