Battle of Naboo Wave
« on: July 18, 2005, 12:53 AM »
Didn't see a thread on this wave yet. We get 8 figures in this wave.

My predictions:

BATTLE OF NABOO (8 figures):

-Qui-Gon Jinn; SA with softgoods cloak and lightsaber.
-Obi-Wan Kenobi; SA with softgoods cloak and lightsaber.
-Jar Jar Binks; SA with boomer balls.
-Naboo Security Guard; SA with blaster and ascension gun.
-Battle Droid; ROTS repack.
-Queen Amidala; new near SA version with pistol and ascension gun.
-Gungan Warrior; SA with boomer balls.
-Darth Maul; MOTDS repack.

Gungan Warrior; SA with boomer balls.

Yep, you definitely need those kind of balls to go up against an AAT! :P Sorry, late-night attempt at punnage.... ;D

There's an awful lot I would like to see--way more than 8.

My top 8:

New:

--SA Gungan Warrior
--Tey How (Neimoidian Pilot)
--generic Neimoidian (glimpsed in background of occupied Theed Palace -- see clearer images HERE)
--SA Naboo security, officers, pilots, etc. (there are a couple different uniforms and types of armor)

Runners-up (new)

SA Captain Panaka
Captain Tarpals (SA?)
SA Qui-Gon Jinn (new)
SA Obi-Wan Kenobi (new)
fullsize Holographic Nute Gunray and Rune Haako -- seriously! Good idea for accompanying TRU exclusives eh? ;) Or, a two-pack of half-size holos.

Repacks:

--Holo Sidious (Episode I)
--Queen Amidala (Celebration Ceremony) (post-OTC)
--POTJ Battle droid repainted in red, blue, gold, and plain versions
--TC-14

Runners-up (repacks)

POTJ Queen Amidala (Royal Decoy) (a.k.a. Traveling Gown)
various astromechs from Amidala's starship (R2-B1 repack etc.)
POTJ Boomer Damage Battle Droid
Sio Bibble (Episode I line)
Destroyer droid (some sort of repack)
OOM-9 (unreleased Trophy Edition)
POTJ Sabe
Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Padawan) from end of film

Deluxe, vehicles, beasts:

--AAT (repack) -- a MUST!
--Droid Scout Tank (repack)
--Falumpaset and ammo wagon (repack)
--Fambaa with shield generator (repack FAO Schwartz exclusive) -- a little out of my price range, but it's unlikely anyway
--Gungan Assault Cannon (repack) with different Gungan warrior instead of Jar Jar
--Gungan Catapult and Flash Cannon accessories (repacks)
--Kaadu (repack) with different Gungan warrior instead of Jar Jar
--STAP (repack)

To be honest, I don't usually get quite as excited about the prequel stuff as the OT, but it would really be nice to see well sculpted, SA, VOTC/Evolution-ish versions of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Padme.  We seem to be getting a nice Maul in the Sith Evolution pack, and if we got nice versions of these three I'd be a happy camper.

Outside of SA versions of Obi-Wan and Qui Gon and then a Amidala Funeral Costume, there isn't much from Naboo that still would interest me.  Most of my wishes from Episode I are on Tatooine...of the waves, this one is the only dud I see

Hmmm... 8 figures in this wave?  Again, I'll assume a 50/50 split for NEW/repack.

4 NEW Figures:
SA Obi-Wan Kenobi (Final Jedi Duel) - soft goods cloak, lightsaber, hilt, commlink
SA Qui-Gon Jinn (Final Jedi Duel) - soft goods cloak, lightsaber, hilt, commlink
SA Droideka - w/clear blue shield and the ability to fold up a bit
Bravo Squad Naboo Pilot - pick one of those ILM cameo guys and give them a figure

4 repaint/repack figures:
Gungan Warrior (the one from the Faambaa)
Captain Tarpals
Queen Amidala (Battle)
PotJ Battle Droid (Boomer Damage version)

That would work just fine...  ;)

Isn't the Saga Endor Rebel Soldier already based on John Knoll (who played the "exploding cockpit" pilot), or am I mistaken?

I'd go for this, as the Droidekas are one of my favorite designs in the prequel trilogy as a whole.  The thing that continues to amuse me is that the Episode I Destroyer Droid is easily the best version of the character and surpasses every subsequent version, IMO.  I would not complain one bit if they did a totally resculpted SA/roll up Droideka, but if they wanted to just do a new "head" piece on the Episode I version, I'd probably buy one of those too.

And let me just say this for the millionth time: HASBRO, RELEASE THE TROPHY EDITION OOM-9.  The first version sucked, it's shown up in both subsequent films, and the TE is already sculpted (and appears to have the same articulation and detailing as the POTJ Security Droid).  RELEASE IT!  THIS MAY BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO DO SO!

Ok, here's my predictions...

4 repacks, 4 new sculpts.

Repacks -

- MOTD Darth Maul
- Security Battle Droid
- Battle Amidala
- holo Sidious

New Sculpts -

- Naboo yellow security
- Qui Gon Jinn
- Obi Wan Kenobi
- Nute Gunray

Now, what I would LIKE to see is this instead... six new figures... two of each per case.

- SA Obi Wan Kenobi (new)
- SA Qui Gon Jinn (new)
- Daulty Dofine (new)
- Yellow Guard (new)
- Rep Teers (new)
- Battle Droid (new... maybe POTJ sculpt w/ ROTS paint scheme)

:P

More rumors from my e-mail in-box:

*new* - Gungan Rep Bean
*new* - Pod Racer 2pk
*new* - Gragra: mos Espa Merchant
?? - Obi-wan Kenobi
?? - Darth Maul
?? - Naboo soldier

The e-mail made it sound like the bottom three were "new", but that doesn't quite fit with the info we have that these waves will be 50/50 new/repacks.   :-\
