I don't know if this warrants its own thread or not, so I thought I'd drop it in here.  I noticed this article at IGN discussing movies that should never be remade.  I was wondering what, if any, movies you feel should be left untouched and not remade?

That's easy: most of them.

Honestly, on principle I'm not a fan of most remakes in general.  There are some films that truly suck and would probably benefit from being remade if, and only if, they have a story and vision that would be improved by todays technology, writing or acting.  But most remakes just **** all over the original material without adding anything worthwhile.

I'm sure there are remakes that I've liked better than the original (assuming I've seen the original), or enjoyed not knowing it was a remake, but that doesn't mean I condone that sort of thing all the time.

Yeah, generally I'm not much for remakes either.  I guess the ones I don't mind are probably ones I don't notice, as the originals were either before my time, generally disliked, or I've just never seen them.  There's a number of movies on that list at IGN that would be tops on mine as well (Indy movies, Ghostbusters, etc.) as well as others that aren't mentioned (Star Wars, of course) that I just can't see anyone else in the roles of those respective franchises.  Now, if it were some sort of sequel (like the rumored Ghostbusters 3) that might have some/all of the old cast, or maybe a new group, I could see that in some instances - but not a direct remake.  On this same topic, I read something today saying that Will Smith is producing a remake of the Karate Kid, starring his son.  I don't know how far along that is, but I'm not sure how I feel about that either.

I don't keep up on all the upcoming movies, but was suprised to see previews over the weekend for Fast and Furious (note there's no the in the title).  Is this the movie that was supposed to be 2Fast 2Furious before Vin Diesel bailed for that horrible xXx movie?

Caught a real good flick this weekend through Netflix - Let the Right One In. I wasn't expecting much, since it's described as a Swedish vampire film, but it went above and beyond. It's moody, surreal, and even touching, with a little hint of gruesome. The two 12-year-old leads are outstanding. Definitely worthy of a look-see.

Moviefone's "Best Movies of the 80s" list, which like most of these lists has its fair share of head scratchers.  Empire makes the list at #4, Raiders is in the top spot, and E.T. ranks 20th (seems low).  ROTJ, the other Indy movies, the Goonies, and the 1989 Batman are all absent from the list of 40.

Another list, Yahoo's "100 Movies to See Before You Die".  A few notables on the list:  Star Wars (1977), Lord of the Rings (The Entire Trilogy), and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Another list, Yahoo's "100 Movies to See Before You Die"

I've got quite a bit of catching up to do -- I've only seen about 35 of those.  I'm watching "Witness" right now -- I always forget what a well-made film that is.

I've seen 35 of the films but not necessarily 35 of what many would consider the more important movies from the list.   ;)

I count 31 from that list.  A good mix of movies.  Though a couple should count as two or more movies.  Isn't Lawrence of Arabia like 4 hours long?  And the LOTR is over 6 right?  So that really should be counted as the three movies that it was released as...
