I heard that the story was pretty much Star Wars exactly, except with dragons.

I've heard mixed reviews of the book, but the trailer looks pretty spiffy.

I'd call it Star Wars + LOTR pretty much exactly...its an alright read.  The kid that wrote it was something like 15 when he did.  For a 15 year old it is amazing but some of the stuff in there is blatant copying of the aformentioned Sagas with names slightly changed to protect the innocent.  I also seem to remember he was really overzealous with his thesaurus

That said, I was sort of looking forward to the movie and it looks to be decent.  I'll probably check it out at some time  (boo to Hollywood for latching on to anything remotely close to LOTR though)  As I said, the book was alright but there are many other Fantasy books out there that deserve to be movies first

I just saw the trailer for this at IGN yesterday, and was actually going to ask about it in this thread.  To be honest, I don't know much about the book (thanks for the info Scott), but the trailer looked pretty decent.  I wouldn't mind seeing it.

I agree

This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

Still haven't decided if I'll go to see the movie. It's looking more and more likely that I'll just wait for the DVD.

Apparently the movie is so bad it makes 11-year-olds cry.

Another (mostly negative) review.

Theme by Avril Lavigne? WTF?

"So aside from the obvious plot and idea theft, how bad is it? Pretty ******* bad."

Yeah, I'm so passing on this.

It seems to be basically the Star Wars: A New Hope plot transplanted into Sci-Fi-Channel-Movie generic medieval fantasyland. Usually I'm a sucker for any and all fantasy films, but even I have standards.

That review is almost exactly what I said above...I thought the book was alright though, I just have no desire to see the movie
