Scientists to attempt to create a miniature big bang effect
« on: September 21, 2006, 12:11 PM »
Okay, I'm not really here and stuff, but I found this and wanted to post it in every forum I go to so that more people know about it.

Now this all sounds good and interesting in theory; so many aspects of it to study, and what it could teach us about the universe. On the other hand, there's a risk, with a BS number attached for ease of the public mind- according to one person I've heard, negative numbers are never used in real risk calculation- that it could destroy the planet.

I think it's interesting on one hand, but ultimately I don't think that's worthwhile.

Anyway, just wanted to get this out there for more people to learn about and think about.

10 to the minus 40 is not a negative number.
It's .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
give or take.

But yeah, the idea sure does conjure images of the universe imploding.  Maybe us creating a second big bang.

Hmmmmm ... sounds trippy and all, but surely there are better applications for the time and money expended on this thing? Especially considering they don't really even know what it does....

Despite the chance that this is going to implode the planet, as long as they don't interrupt the NFL season, I'm fine with it.

Has anyone ever read the Stephen King novella The Mist?

Sounds like the Arrowhead project to me.....

Ever read Angels and Demons?  Exactly the same thing as in that book.

It kinda looks like the energy creating device in Spiderman 2 that Doc Oc finally destroyed at the end.

Didn't Reed Richards try something like this?  And look where it got Ben Grimm!

Maybe they can put it in a little box....kinda like Professor Farnsworth did in Futurama?
This is the way.

Sorry for the double post, but if Mitsukara isn't really here....maybe the experiment is already a success?   :o
