I don't think anyone should be name calling other members anywhere. Disagreeing and making observations is a great use of debate and discussion. But when name calling is used I think it just lowers the whole thing. I may not agree with everything LJ says but I have made it a point to NOT to call  her a nasty name. She's better than that and deserves better than that. We all deserve better than that.

It is, you're right. Just like using extra punctuation is mine!!

And what a fascinating, interesting, unique style it is.  "Excessive punctuation."

God love you, Bertha.  God love you.

I think I need to take a shower and cool off a little bit.

I don't know that I ever really resorted to name-calling.  True, I did use the word "moron," but it was in a little softer context than it could have been (i.e. "it makes you look like a moron" instead of "you're a moron for using too much punctuation").

But frankly, sometimes a spade is just a spade, and all of the extra exclamation points and question marks aren't exactly making her out to be a Pulitzer prize-winning author, either.

It's very appropriate that this thread is titled "Rebelscum".  The way people are whining about nonsense in this thread made me think that for just a second, I logged into the wrong Forum.

Thnaks for checking in Rayne. As always there's always room for more crazy. Thanks!

I may be the only level-minded person in this thread.
 ;)
And that's a scary thought.

You haven't posted anything. It's easy to be level-minded when you are a posting mute. :P

I prefer to sit back and observe the chaos.  It's rather comical.

Hmmmm, no chaos I see.  We've (staff) been watching the shenanigans here, it's not out of hand though, just someone's made a comment on LJ's punctuation and she's replied...  Conversation on it ensued and is seemingly dying off.  Points were made, none will be heeded, and all is right with the world.

I agree with Jesse, no chaos at all! It was actually a rather delightful discussion. Some name calling, but otherwise it was what it was!

No, no name-calling.  Some slightly-rude verbiage yes, but name-calling no.

All of it justified, however.

Eh, just another Virex vs. Lady Jaye discussion, that's all...  I suppose they could just PM eachother, but it appears they'd rather discuss proper punctuation, or lack thereof, in public so everyone can enjoy.

That said, if anyone ever gives me **** for putting "..." everywhere in my posts, I'll kick your ass!!  :P

As for the Gareth situation, I actually kept an eye on all that crap going on in the various threads involving him at RS, and was downright shocked to see someone who was stealing thousands of dollars worth of Star Wars collectibles get completely protected by a staff member (Jeremy) there, to the point where any who said **** to or about Gareth was immediately reprimanded, while Gareth just continued stealing more and more from the RS members.  Talk about bizarre.

But considering some of the preferential/protective treatment that some of the more notorious trolls at RS have received over the past couple of years, I'm not really all that surprised, I guess.  Same ol', same ol'...

Now hopefully we can try to let the lame punctuation discussion die down here, since nothing new is being said at this point.  Pretty please?  :-*

What's the diference between using an extra exclamation point or two and always adding your name at the end. It's not like we don't know who in the hell just posted a reply!! ::)

Tell ya what Kevvo, you stop with the name at the end of the reply and I'll use only one punctuation mark?

I know I'm about 4 pages late but I'd like to add that I think this is a fair trade.  It's a win-win situation for everyone.   I'll just be waiting for Kevin to okay the deal and then we'll move on from there.

(I. Hanson/T. Hanson/Z. Hanson)

Oh, Oh, oh. Oh, oh. Oh, yeah.
You have so many relationships in this life,
Only one or two will last.
You go through all the pain and strife,
Then you're turnin' your back and they're gone so fast.

Oh yeah. And they're gone so fast, yeah.

Oh, so hold on to the ones that really care,
In the end they'll be the only ones there.
When you get old and start losing your hair,
Can you tell me who will still care?
Can you tell me who will still care? Oh care.

Chorus:

MMMBop...bidi dapa doo wop
Doo bi dapa doo bop
Bidi dapa doo, yeah, yeah
MMMBop...bidi dapa doo wop
Doo bi dapa doo bop
Bidi dapa doo, yeah, yeah

Said oh yeah, in an MMMBop they're gone. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Plant a seed, plant a flower,plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows.
It's a secret no one knows.
It's a secret no one knows.
Oh, knows, no one knows.

(Chorus...)

In an MMMBop they're gone
In an MMMBop they're not there
In an MMMBop they're gone
In an MMMBop they're not there
Until you lose your hair
ohh, but you don't care, oh yeah.

(Chorus...)

Can you tell me?
Ohh, no you can't 'cause you don't know.
Can you tell me?
Oh yeah, you say you can but you don't know.
Can you tell me? (Which flower's gonna grow)
Ohh, no you can't 'cause you don't know.
Can you tell me? (It's gonna be, it's easy, ohh)
You say you can but you don't know.
Can you tell me? (Which flower's gonna grow)
Ohh, no you can't 'cause you don't know.
Can you tell me?
You say you can but you don't know.
Say you can but you know.
You don't know ohh.
Don't know ohhh.

MMMBop.......Doo wop........Doo bop.......Doo.......yeah, yeah
MMMBop..woah, yeah, yeah...Doo wop......Doo bop........Doo........woah, yeah

(Chorus...)(2x)

Can you tell me?
Ohh, no you can't 'cause you don't know.
Can you tell me?
Oh yeah, you say you can but you don't know.
Say you can but you don't know..........No.

And it's not improper either as using "!" or "!!" (etc.) is...  It's not bad "netiquette" as I pointed out earlier.

Of course there's plenty of relaxed banter here, but I think what the Cos is saying is that "style" and routinely using an exclamation as your punctuation are two different things.  It's not wrong to put "..." at the end of a sentence if you're carrying on a thought or whatnot, whereas there's never a proper time to use two !'s, and even using 1 ! is a rare occurance in writing.  It is like yelling by typing in all capital letters emphasizes the post.

You can use it to emphasize a word, but some use it to emphasize an entire post, and it comes through as yelling...  Ending every sentence with "!!!" isn't too much different and I suppose it can be annoying to some, distracting to others, and I'm sure others will not look at it with much respect...  Does that matter?  Well, it depends who is being told I guess...  If it didn't, would we have this conversation with so many replies though?

I think people aren't saying it's a big deal so much as they're saying it shows a lack of posting class maybe...  I don't think there were names being called either, just honest opinions about the subject at hand...  For instance Bill Cosby didn't call anyone a buffoon, he just said that the !'s make LJ look like one...  I maybe missed the "fighting" though, I dunno, I've lost track honestly, but this wasn't anything bad to read through I thought.  Weird...  but not bad.

This is sick.  And not in the "yo, dawg, did you see that dunk by T-Mac? That was sick!" kind of way, but in the "Scott is a disturbed, sick individual who needs professional treatment" kind of way.

And that, Ladies and gentlemen, was my first use of name-calling in this thread.  And very warranted name-calling, at that.
