Computer Help & Tech Support
« on: January 25, 2003, 02:07 PM »
I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a large Internet Worm going around "shutting servers down" and slowing down the internet. Microsoft servers are what is being affected. You may notice that sites don't load and this could be the reason. Just a heads-up. Read the article at CNN for more- http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/01/25/internet.attack/index.html

That's one nasty virus worm that went around. I noticed I could not access other sites early in the morning starting around 1am. This worm called Sapphire or SQL Slammer, has been likened to the Code Red bug of July, 2001.

Some sites are still affected at this time. Here's another report on this virus:

Custom Desktop Icons?
Does anyone know of any good sites where I can find custom desktop icons, specifically SW or LOTR ones? I just got Windows XP the other day, and it set all my SW icons back to the default ones. :-\

If not, I just need something that will match my desktop: http://www.jedidefender.net/hosted/coleman/images/mydesktopXP1.JPG

Thanks. :)

What screen resolution and monitor size are you on?
It's come to my attention that I haven't stepped up with the times and switched to a higher screen resolution on my monitor.  I'm currently kickin' it at only 800 x 600, which I like 'cause it's a lot bigger and easier to see, not to mention clearer.  But I can certainly fit a lot more onto the screen with more res, which I'm considering switching to (like 1024 x 768).

I've got a 17" monitor at home, and a nice 19"er at work, so the actual size isn't so much an issue for me.

Anyways, what are all of you folks looking at right now?  What's your resolution and how big a screen do you have?

Must be an old guy thing.  Small screen, low res.

Same as you Matt.

New 'puter in the fall.  Hoping DVD burner prices are sufficiently down by then.  Still running the 333 MHz (w. 584 MB ram).  It works fine, for now, though it was pretty funny to see my wife cursing the machine given that she has a 1.8 G laptop.  Still, my home machine is faster than the one at work.  54 months without defragmenting and counting.  Welcome to the government. :-\

AOL sucks
AOL could possibably be the worst internet service in the history of the planet. Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes to get on the internet. It is so slow and it kickes me off all the time! >:(

And this surprises you?  Stop living in the stone age.  Get a cable modem, or DSL.  It'll make you smile. ;D
