I was reading about this last night.  That's a lot of crap to be recalling.

But, is it just me, or does it seem like the Chinese are trying to kill us?  They've already poisoned toothpaste, shrimp, pet food, Thomas trains and now Fisher Price toys.

I think it's a conspiracy.

my daughter has some of the dora toys, but they were all purchased before may '07 so they're not recalled.

god almighty..both kids had that retarded elmo guitar when they were babies.  I depised that thing.  "Jam with Elmo!!"
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

We've got the Elmo sprinkler, one of the few 'themed" toys we've allowed over the years.  Fortunately it's a couple of years old so it's not affected by the recal, but it's going in the trash anyway.  We have made it a point to stay away from all manner of Elmo, Wiggles, Dora, SpongeBob, TeleTubbies, etc crap.  We have allowed a few Thomas and, of course, Curious George things in ;)

Bah, a little lead paint won't kill you.  Everyone's so sissified.

I must say though, the Chinese are apparently trying to kill us, yes.  I heard 2 weeks ago that the Chicomm gub'mint did execute the head of their equivalent to the FDA for all of these recalls.

Apparently 60% of all product recalls in 2006 were on goods made in China. But, since about 80% of our **** comes from there that shouldn't surprise anyone.

On another note,  my Star Wars figures seem to taste lead free.

Hmmm...I bought a Go Diego Go Elephant Rescue the other day.  It's not on the list, but there's a bunch of  other "GDG Rescue" stuff there.

Hasbro toys under threat next??
Hasbro toys under threat next?

Just starting a thread to discuss the current toys scares/recalls. They seem to be centered around magnets. I wonder if Hasbro will do a voluntary recall of all their magnetic, light saber holding figures now?

I never thought of how magnets swallowed could be harmful until lately. I guess having older kids now has made me a slacker when it comes to keeping up with small childern safety issues.

EDIT: I didn't realize there was already a thread for this, I guess I could have scrolled down to find out :-\
I also apparently needed to repair my dyslexic misspelling error on the word 'magnets'.

There was a big recall on some of the Magnetix toys last year because of the magnets falling out of them.  One thing that they've kept mentioning in all the reports I've read is about the power of them.  The Magnetix were pretty strong and apparently so are some of the ones in the toys being recalled now.

I wonder if the magnets in the SW figures are powerful enough that they'd raise the same alarm?

All these recalls are really going to hurt Mattel's bottom line for the year.

Not to get too graphic, but the magnets falling out wasn't the only problem with the Magnetix.  Some of the pieces with the magnets were small enough for a toddler to swallow and the magnets were powerful enough to link together in their intestines, causing dangerous blockages.

Based on what?  You didn't link an article referencing this, you admitted that you weren't up to speed on the whole magnet thing since your kids were older, and E Franks referenced a Magnetix recall from last year.

I never though magnets would be any more of an issue than a kid swallowing a coin or something similar.  It never occurred to me that if there were two of them they could attract to each other across the walls of intestine and cause a tear and other problems.

The Magnetix toys brought out that revelation.

****, on farms you put magnets in cows on purpose to attract things like nails and whatnot so that they don't make it to the intestines or damage the stomach.  Obviously, people aren't cows, but still, the magnet problem just wasn't something that occurred to me till last year.

Now, lead paint on the other hand, we've know about that for as long as I can remember.  I remember there being product recalls on fast food glasses back in the early 80's due to lead in the paint and problems they were having in apartment complexes with lead based trim paint and kids teething on it.
