I always thought this thing was a droid in itself with no need of a pilot ???
School has been on strike all month. so much for the summer job I was hoping to get D:

I think the no pilot/all droid is the way it is in the movie. The sphere kinda lends itself to a cockpit and also adds more play value. I know I prefer the figure interaction with vehicles, especially when overall accuracy is not sacrificed.

Interesting. Smart on Hasbro's part, but yeah, it's really a droid in and of itself.

Yeah, up to this point it was a droid, but who knows how it will be used/shown in the animation?

Perhaps at some point in the animation someone takes one for a ride (like Chewie & the AT-ST in Jedi) and that's why Hasbro put the cockpit in there?

Even if there is no cockpit in the series, I hope this isn't one of those detail people get all up in arms about. One can elect to just never open the cockpit.

This sounds really stupid but as a droid i wanted it, as a vehicle i can now pass. Why it makes a difference i dont know but it saves me some money.

The cockpit thing is pretty dumb, as I'm pretty sure every established source cites it as not being a piloted "vehicle" but instead simply a droid in and of itself.  The concept sounds completely Hasbro to me, and I'll be annoyed only if it's something the animation tries to pass off.  I hate when EU screws with established EU just because the a-holes can.

It's nothing major on the toy though as it can just be left shut.

Yeah, I thought the Spider Droid was just a droid, like the Crab Droid. I'll just ignore the cockpit.
I'm just gonna get one of these, even though they look awesome!

I don't think it's dumb to include a cockpit.

While I won't be using it myself, look at it this way:
• It adds play value which means more sales for Hasbro
• It follows the Battlefront Homing Spider droid in that you could get into one of those
• The hinge doesn't imped upon the toy should you choose not to utilize it as such

So really, it's kind of moot to complain about it, IMO.

Hasbro did a great job with this toy. It's a little smale for scale, but I'm satisfied with it so far. I can't wait to get my hands on at least two of them, possibly four.
I'm just a humble collector trying to make his way through the universe...of toy aisles.

Sal, I don't see why anyone would complain either.  I was able to get one a couple days back at Wal-Mart, and to be honest, it might be my favorite prequel vehicle that I have to this point (soon to be surpassed by the upcoming AT-TE of course) -

It's not like this is some sort of action feature that ruins the toy or takes anything away from the appearance...

Weird.  But I think it does give it some more play value.

I wasn't complaining. I just thought it was a droid itself...

Here I'll quote myself so people's panties can become unwadded.  ;)

It's not major on the toy...  It's if it's an EU change, then that is dumb.

See how that's not complaining about the toy?  Anyone?

No?

OK nevermind.

Got to open one last night. Very cool toy. What's interesting to note is that the cardboard innards are designed for a 30AV style box with the angled corner. Intended for 30AV or was the original packaging design similar to 30AV?
