Honda Commercial in the UK
« on: June 30, 2003, 01:22 PM »
One of my friends sent me this email about a Honda commercial.  It's very cool, and below is the URL and the content of the email that was sent to me.  I don't usually ever forward emails like this, but this is a VERY cool commercial.  Enjoy!   ;D

This is a Honda Accord commercial from British TV.  The above link will
take you to a page that will run the commercial.  Below is a bit of how the
commercial was made and that everything you see on the film actually
happened.  It took 606 takes to get it to work from beginning to end.

New Honda commercial in the UK. Very important that you understand: There
are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything you see
really happened in real time exactly as you see it. The film took 606
takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work.
They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent weeks
shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they were ready to change
professions.

The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete
including a full engineering the sequence. In  addition, it's two minutes
long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're
shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime.
However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in Internet
history.

Everything you see  in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and
complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two cars.

That commercial is absolutely amazing...   :o

I was originally alerted to it over at GH earlier this month.  Very, very cool.  606 takes?  I believe it.  Glad they finally got it all to work - well worth it!

I agree with Matt. Absolutely amazing. One of the best commercials in a long time. Takes a lot of patience to set it up & make it work.  8)

I just couldn't believe that there wasn't any CGI in it.  Most companies would just jump in the CGI waters instead of actually doing the commercial, but I give props to Honda for making that commercial.  It truly is amazing.

You're right, that was kinda freaky in a way.  I did notice that part the most, and it was weird seeing those walk on their own.

That’s just so cool 8). I can’t believe I missed it - I've never actually seen it on TV before.
