 These guys look like a throwback to some 40s comic book or a rip off of some Marvel characters.

That's funny because that's exactly what they are. In fact, I don't think they're a rip off. If I remember the history of the project correctly, the characters were all failed comic book characters that DC owned and were trying to have re-birthed. The challenge to Moore was - "can you take these characters and give them new life?"

That's not exactly how it happened.  Moore initially pitched using existing heroes, but DC balked.  So Moore created brand new characters loosely based on existing ones.

Watchmen Trailer Song: Have you ever wondered what that addictive song from the Watchmen trailer is?

Quote
Zack Snyder used the song in the trailer; however he does not wish to use it either in the soundtrack of the film or within the film itself. As a historical purist, Zack Snyder did not put the music in the film because the Watchmen is based in mid-1980s New York, but the Smashing Pumpkins weren't even formed until the late 1980s in Chicago.

But we can always remember "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" as the perfect choice for the Watchmen trailer's song.

Yeah, too bad it's not making the cut. That toon just screams Watchmen.

Clicky & crank it!  8)

Thanks for posting that Dale.  Great song, and it fit the trailer perfectly.  I have admit, although it probably sounds blasphemous as a comic reader, I've never actually read the Watchmen either.  I've been aware of it since I read comics as a kid, but just never picked up a copy.  I think I'll try to pick up the TPB next time I order from Amazon, and get it read prior to the movie finally.  I had heard before that Moore originally wanted to use established comic characters, but had to go create news ones (based loosely on previous ones).  I was curious, has it ever been revealed which characters he wanted to use originally?  I thought I heard Rorschach was based on The Question, but I wasn't sure of the others.

Yes, Moore wanted to use the Charlton Comics heroes that DC had acquired -

The Comedian = Peacemaker
Doctor Manhattan = Captain Atom
Nite Owl = Blue Beetle
Ozymandias = Thunderbolt
Rorschach = Mr A / The Question
Silk Spectre = not from Charlton, but based on Black Canary / Phantom Lady

Just heard about that. I had read about the problems and I'm very familiar with the principal player. I'm not surprised this happened. Hopefully WB and Fox will work something out.

When we started working on the Black Freighter I was told this might be an issue... I'd forgotten all about it until this news broke the other day.

So if it's delayed, you're gonna hook us all up with copies, right?   ;)

And the list of reasons why I hate Fox just grows and grows.  Do they really know they may, in fact, be the single most hated entity in entertainment next to the Weinsteins?

Sure, if I want to lose my job and most likely face prosecution from Warner Brothers...   :-*
