I'm sort of the mind GRRM will now wait until the show is over to publish the book. From a marketing standpoint, there's probably more value in sustaining the brand beyond the show with the promise of further books (Look! See how it's different). That's a pure guess, and I do think he is just very, very slow at writing.

I think that the publisher would want to release the book when interest from the show is high.  And what could be better than going from the season 7 finale of the HBO series into the release of the next book?

I would think so, too and I'm sure they've thought several times in the last several years it'd be nice to have a book out.  :)

Bummer on that, but I probably will pick up the Targaryen Fire and Blood book when it comes out later this year.
