The End of 'Legacy'
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:03 AM »
In case anyone stumbles upon this, 'Legacy', like KOTOR, ends with Issue #50. As of this posting (6.28.10), Issue #49 comes out in 2 days, and, from the previews, somethings tells me the 'Star Wars' galaxy is going to end up in a hell of a rough spot after #50 - (SPOILERS) so far, less than 20% of the Mon Calamari species exists, thanks to the Sith, and a Sith scientist is creating a virus that can easily wipe out entire planets! :o

I, personally, am very saddened by the death of the series. It's being ended to make way for DH's 25th Anniversary projects, which actually upsets me somewhat, because 'Legacy' was so great - I remember when 'Legacy' and KOTOR both debuted in 2006, and I found 'Legacy' WAAAY more appealing, in terms of artwork, character selection, and storyline.

Any thoughts on the end of the series?

I too am upset that this series is ending.

I really don't see a reason as to why it needs to end. There are 9 trade paperbacks of the issues so far - someone could easily pick those up and the Vector TPB and be all caught up with the series very quickly should they become interested in Star Wars set 150+ years after the events of the OT.

I can appreciate Dark Horse wanting to keep their titles "fresh" but now that issue #49 has come out, I don't want to give anything away, but unless issue #50 is a double-length issue (which I highly doubt) there are going to be A LOT of plot threads that were just dropped and what plots they do cover are going to seem very rushed to wrap them up in a single issue.

I really would have liked that they at least drew the line in the sand and confirmed that the Fel dynasty was also begotten from the Skywalker family line with Jaina Solo marrying Jagged Fel - further cementing that Legacy was all about how the Legacy of Anakin Skywalker was still affecting the galaxy more than a century after his death.

In issue #49, the editor hinted that they were going to make Legacy fans happy with the announcement of another title, similar to how Republic became Dark Times and Empire became Rebellion. I figured they would announce something like that at SDCC, but I haven't been able to find any evidence of such an announcement.... oh well.

Pete, you have made MANY valid points, and I also wanted to say something about the highlighted text above. The editors from DH have made an announcement regarding the end of the series, but, after reading it, it seems this is not "the" big announcement they keep referring to - they say they have a plan, but so far they haven't revealed it, and Issue #50 is going to hit soon. Maybe they'll reveal it in their last issue?

As for how to properly wrap up the series, I think that's near impossible at this point. I doubt DH will make a double-length issue, and they have too much material to cover before wrapping it up. And some material they've added in Issue #49 alone makes ending the series even trickier.

Thanks for the link Jabba - I hadn't read that announcement before.

Here's hoping that they continue the story with a new title.

Your wish is granted. :)

Dark Horse Announces Star Wars: Legacy - War (spoiler warning!)

Sounds like it's only six issues, but at least it's something...

YES!

The cover for issue #1 of the new series embodies the darker tone change of the series. It's very impressive work overall, and the setting of storyline/plot makes it much different and interesting than other comics. And something that's interesting is how the DH representatives keep contradicting themselves in this article alone on if there might be any spin-offs/extended stories branching off of "Legacy."

Well, I wonder what's going to happen in issue #50 (SPOILER) if the 2 biggest characters of the whole story are still alive...

Now I understand why they've been holding off on this announcement. Like Jabba said - it's kinda interesting to speculate as to what's gonna happen in issue #50 if we already know that Cade and Krayt are alive at the end.

Interesting how they are not mentioning Talon - considering what she's up to "at the moment", if Krayt is out for blood, I would expect her to be at his side, but perhaps not.

The one part of the announcement that I'm not too thrilled with is that this series of six issues is planned to be the end of the Legacy series. I would have rathered gotten another 50 issues set a year or two after the end of the current Legacy comics, but six is always better than nothing.

I have a feeling that neither Darths Talon or Nihl will be back. As for some speculation as to what will happen to them in issue #50, I have a feeling that Nihl will kill Talon or Talon will kill Nihl (remember that Nihl is hunting her down on Korriban).

Although I'm disappointed this is only a miniseries, I think 6 issues is a generous amount. Most miniseries are usually 3-5 issues.

Too bad the Comic 2-pack series is mostly dead. I would love to see them coordinate with Dark Horse to release a wave of Comic 2-packs with all six issues of this mini-series plus two more issues out of the 50 issue run - I was always surprised they never came out with the issue where they showed what happened between Obi-Wan vs. Hett on Tatooine.

When I first saw the cover of issue #1 of 'Legacy - War,' I immediately wanted that version of Darth Krayt as an action figure! ;D

Well, the "last" issue of Legacy came out.

Just to keep it spoiler-free for right now, I'm not going to reveal many details - unless people start requesting.

I was honestly surprised by the lack of deaths, as this seemed to be an "apocalyptic" issue. But it definitely sets the way for "Legacy - War" without a doubt. And I'm interested to see what will happen to Cade, since we see something important in a vision of his.

Now we have to wait till December... :-\

I FINALLY bought Legacy #50! ;D My local comic shop just got it now, September 1st, when it was released August 18th. Oh well. ::)

And guess what?

My letter to the editor was published as well! :o I was shocked to see it there, because I had written it back in June, and it's now August!

I pretty much commented how although the series was being ended, it's been one heck of a ride since 2006 when it first debuted (they had commented before that they were getting a lot of upset letters, so I wanted to stay away from that zone). I'm glad to see that the DH crew is responding to the fans.

Hey - kudos to you for getting your letter to the editor published in Issue #50! That's pretty cool.

I thought as far as issues go, it was pretty cool, albeit a little lacking on monumentous events, but I guess that's the point of mini-series that starts in December.

Why thank you!  ;D

And yeah, I felt that the issue was somewhat rushed. I wanted to see more of Talon vs. Nihl and Draco vs. Havok, but I guess the more epic stuff will be saved until "War." I think that the ending, though, is a perfect tie-in to what we will be seeing this December... man, why December?!...

Is difficult to predict if this series war are the end of legacy, because, darkhorse has created an antihero, Cade Skywalker, troubled by his growth in the force, his adventures, his findings about the dark side
He is very different from Luke Skywalker, his ancestor... he did what Luke never did... experiment with lethal bars (the current drug in the sw universe), moreover he needs more tension in his relationships than Luke, for example there is big strain betwwen he and the imperial knights (other kind of force sensitives... not Jedis, in some way in struggle with them)

Something I would like to know... when Cade, Syn, Blue and some guys speak in huttesse... it seems that they are replaying only Jabba´s lines from the OT classic films? (E chu ta is an insult (this word appeared in Bespin the protocol droid), pattesse is a nickname....), but, is Darkhorse willing to expand Huttesse out of the classical records?

I recognise, Cade is more often tempted by the dark side, because his healing power is growing near the strenght in the force of Darth Plagueis.

A clearer end should consider if Cade would return to the Jedi order, until he becomes a full Jedi, or if he definetely abbandons the order, the series should suggest adventures of the succesors of Kol Skywalker, Shado and company.
