NHL Off-Season 2011
« on: June 21, 2011, 03:39 PM »
It's unanimous (like the other owners were ever going to turn down that $60mil fee :P).

Welcome back to the NHL, Winnipeg.

Dang, I'm on the hook for $8K+  :-X

 ;D

Schedule could be out soon too.  Some preseason schedules have been announced by some other teams.  Now we need a name and some jerseys.

Happy day.

Why are you Canadians trying to steal our 4th national pastime!?

4th?  I dunno man, I think it's behind NASCAR for sure and probably pro-bowling along with a few other things.  Of course if the NFL and NBA both go with lockouts, it may vault up to 14th on the popularity list.

Must have been kind of funny at the BOG meeting though - wait, someone's going to give us $60 million AND pay for the franchise?  Really?  Take it, take it, take it!  Before they change their minds!

Is it just me or did Winnipeg just offset all of the losses that the NHL has incurred while owning Phoenix?   ;)

I think the last time ESPN crunched the numbers, the NHL was 6th, ranked below NFL, MLB, NASCAR, NCAA Football, and NBA.  Still ahead of PGA, PBA, PBR, and MLS for the time being. ;)

Well, when you add in $50mil from Glendale and $60mil from you guys, yeah, I think they are OK on the Coyotes (and may actually make money on the deal if they can get someone to buy PHX for next season).

NASCAR is gigunda...  I'm amazed it hasn't taken over MLB yet, honestly.

Ew.... I always considered it a solid 4 - (3rd, maybe even 2nd personally).  I don't count college sports - those are second tier in terms of being a professional sport.

NASCAR isn't for me, can't stand it, don't consider it a sport, and don't understand why people like it - but you're right, I used the word pastime, so...

I dunno...  Till Golf is removed from being classified a "sport", it's tough to argue NASCAR isn't one.

Wow, the NHL is on top of things...  Atlanta's team page is gone and the Winnipeg page is up:

Pretty cool actually.  Still tons of speculation, notably about the home opener = Montreal.  Yikes!  Schedule should be out this week though.

I hear it's 50 lbs. of Pemmican for tickets on the glass.  Just a rumor.

Ha!  $50 worth won't even get you in the building this year let alone near the glass.

Schedule out this afternoon.

December 13, 2011 = Wild @ Winnipeg
February 16, 2012 = Winnipeg @ Wild

That December drive might not be too bad... gotta think on that one...

Looks like our East doubles for next year are Winnipeg (cool),  Florida (::)), and the Islanders (::)).

Also, hoping that Versus will get this on TV for me to see...

Digging the schedule and being in the Eastern side of things for this year.  Bad part about the schedule is no Detroit and no Chicago.  If they move Detroit next year we'll rarely see them  :-\

Not so fond of all the games in early December though - that's when we typically take family vacation out of town and the Wild, Caps, Canadiens, Pens are all here when we'll be gone.

Lots of home stands and lots of long road stands as well, assume that's to help with travel costs.  Works ok in some places, not so much in others.  12 home games in December, only 4 in January ::)

Of course we only got three home games in the preseason, so our total is 44 games, not 45 like we thought so splitting off the games means someone will have to give up one.   ::)

Pens are our second home game, so I'm aiming for that one if I don't get the home opener.
