2012 SDCC "Carbonite Chamber Packaging" Box Set
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:06 PM »
Spun off from the rumors thread...
Hmmm... closer inspection reveals that there are SIX with duplicate numbers (updated the list above).  And one from each movie...

EP1 JAR JAR
EPII CLONE LIEUTENANT
EPIII CLONE
EPIV SANDTROOPER
EPV PRINCESS LEIA
EPVI DARTH VADER

Hmmm.  A mystery, we have.

Tweets from the Hasbro show are suggesting that these six figures will be on some sort of retro look card using some kind of lost Kenner graphics or something...    Apparently some sort of "Carbonite Freeze Chamber" box set packaging at 2012 SDCC and then the regular carded figures will be available at retail singly (like they did with the 2011 SDCC Death Star / Revenge set I assume).

GalacticHunter tweeted a pic of the card art for the set...  the presentaion slide says:
"Recreation of a "Lost" Line Look from the Kenner Vault!
Carbonite Freezing Chamber Package
6 highly articulated single carded 3 3/4" figures, one from each film
plus a new exclusive figure"

Sounds like possibly a "JarJar Carbonite Block" will potentially only be available in the SDCC set (like Salacious and Mouse Droid in the 2011 set were).  Watch for more details from Toy Fair soon! :)

So Jar Jar in Carbonite is an exclusive to the set, and the regular Jar Jar will fit in the carbonite block?

I can't say I'llm iss that particular exclusive from my collection.

I'm not sure on JarJar...  it's hard to get much out of "OMG JarJar in CArbonite SDCC Exclusive lolz" tweets.  :-\

I just got clarification from efranks that this is what it is...

It's the set of Carbo block packaged 6 figures, and an exclusive block for Jar Jar to fit into.

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.  I dont' think I have ever cared this little about an exclusive.  Even the Covert Ops Clone had more appeal to me, and I bought that on clearance.  I'm sure this set will be as difficult to obtain as last year's SDCC Death Star set, but that's just par for the Hasbro Show Exclusive course now I think.

I still say this is lame.  I guess the 501st helped them develope this or something, and are really happy with it, but yeah, as a piece in my collection I honestly wouldn't want it on the shelf with the rest of the figures.  George Lucas figures were a stretch to me.

The draw here some cardboard and a "toture Jar Jar" joke?

The  lost lines that would be interesting:

Holiday Special figures (Chewie's family, basically)
Post-ROTJ Kenner ideas (Mongo beefhead, Imperial attack droids, Atha Prime, etc.)

Neither will ever happen, too much new tooling or a taboo subject. But that's good...I would actually want those. Seriously, Hasbro, make all the exclusive packaging stuff you want for geek festivals. Those are the only kind of con exclusives there should be.

Saw a pic of Carbonite JarJar GH's facebook page...  Looks like the Vader in the set is "electrified" and the Ep3 Clone is a Shocktrooper.

And they've posted a sneak peek at the "Carbonite Chamber" packaging too.

Neat for those who want it, but much like the 2011 DS set I'm not going to be very upset if I don't end up with one.

That whole wave, besides Jar Jar and Leia, is a pretty easy pass really...  I have a cool removable helmet Clone Lt. and I'm content with the SA sculpt...  I'll pick randoms up as I see them, but Vader's not real important to me ultimately, nor are the Clones...  Sandtrooper, meh, I have plenty.

Weird wave in general.  The exclusive version of it, even moreso.

And these will be available (minus Jar Jar) with the special (UGH) packaging variant (And this was why we saw repeats of some of those figures in case assortments) at retail.

And the Carbonite block is double sided, frozen Jar Jar and then the 'shell' after he is thawed out... like Han in Jedi.

I've uploaded the photos.... I can post a pic of it. Hmm, can't make it work off dropbox.  :(

But, yeah, definitely want a Han Carbonite (of course, with LEDs, so that would make the swap tough)

Loved the GI Joe SDCC exclusives. Jinx is cool and the HISS/Shockwave are awesome. I love the Soundwave and cassettes that are thrown in as accessories.

I wonder if this could be Hasbro's attempt to see how far they can go in making a lack-luster SDCC SW exclusive that won't sell out before the end of show.
