I'll pay too for all new characters and a good mix of resculpts like both of these are...I agree that the inclusion of Jek's droid is a little dissapointing as it is more or less R5-D4.  Hopefully they will paint the back panels red :P

Agreed.  But in the case of the three pilots they chose for the 3-pack you can only really see Porkins' droid in any of the screencaps.  And I can't see ANY of the Y-Wing astromechs in those shots from inside the cockpit.  So all things considered it seems reasonable that Hasbro would pick Porkins' droid since it's the only one with any kind of visual reference.  And when I did look for shots of the Y-Wings in the trench, guess what? THERE ARE NO ASTROMECHS IN THE DROID SOCKETS!

I guess you can't even link to the image...it's the far left column third from the bottom

Yeah, that site is great for screencaps, but they don't want you hotlinking their images.  I was looking through all of those Y-Wing pilot screencaps, and couldn't find a single shot that would show you an astromech dome.  So then I started looking for the Y-Wings in the trench and found that one screencap with the empty droid sockets.  I was more than a little shocked to see that!

No wonder they couldn't make it to the exhaust port.

Why would there be a socket but no droid in it?

...because the ILM model makers didn't make one?

Some of the shots of the Y-Wing models at Yavin had droids in their sockets.  In one shot, you can see a black R2 dome, in another, you can see what looks like an all gray R2 dome.  Both of these shots are during the approach to the Death Star.

Shots taken of the actual models themselves show one with a gray R2 dome (possibly the one seen in the movie mentioned above), one with a black r2 dome (same one seen in the movie mentioned above), and one with an R2 dome painted up to look like R5-D4's dome.  I have shots of them all up on my site.

No shots of full size prop domes behind the pilots have been released, if they do exist.  I don't know why the droid slots are empty in the one repeatedly used trench shot, but the slot is clearly there.

My point here is that we can't definitively tie any specific astromech droids to either Tiree or Pops.  So out of the three pilots in this pack, the only one where we CAN identify the astromech is with Porkins.

They could have included one of the Yavin droids instead

I'd have been cool with that.  There's quite a few around IIRC.  I got a bunch of R5-D4 for customizing recently, and have others, so yeah I didn't need another.

Or, at least, if they wanted to do Porkins' droid, they could have come up with some different body deco.  The head is obviously R5-D4 in the movie, but they could gone someplace else with the rest of it.

I'd have been happy with a particularly grimey paintjob, actually.  I kind of look at astro's like chevy cavaliers.  You're gonna see the exact same one now and then, maybe even side-by-side...  But yeah, a unique body deco (since a body deco, by all accounts I've ever seen, isn't solidified on Jek's droid) would've done a lot for that figure's popularity.

I'd also like to add that I too am ok with $30-$40 (though $40 is the high end for sure) for sets like this.  I would love a set like this with Fleet Troopers with new heads, a new Captain Antilles, and a Stormtrooper.  Or Endor Rebel variants, a Scout, and maybe an Ewok repaint.  Or Hoth Rebels and Hoth Imperials...  sneak a droid in any of those sets too maybe.

The Galactic Heroes version of Jek Porkins' droid-- the one that came in the X-Wing set-- has some added yellow markings within the red panels.  Maybe Hasbro is going to incorporate those on this new figure?

(I think the GH version also had those on R5-D5, which if memory serves came out after the Jek set.)

Finally a Rebel pilot set that I like... I'd like to get two pilot sets.  One of the Ewok set.
