Since I pretty much finished my vintage star wars set, I've been toying with the idea of assembling a nice set of vintage Indiana Jones figures.  Does anyone know if there's any online authority on that line?  I want to be more knowledgeable about what the line consists of... variations, accessories, and average value before I go diving in.

I don't know if it is the best resource or not for what you're looking for, but I know TheRaider.net has a lot of good Indy info.  Here's the linky to their vintage Kenner page(s):

That seems like a great place to start as far as I can tell.

Were there really only 9 regular figures, a few small playsets, and a horse?  This might be easier than I thought it would be unless they're really pricey.

It's pretty limited for sure.  I collected most if not all of this a few years back.  I can snap a pic of what I have and post it if you'd like.  I'll have to go look at what I have to say whether you listed everything or not.

Are you planning on loose or otherwise?  Watch out for broken thumbs.

Sure, yeah - if it's not a lot of trouble that'd be great.

I'm definitely collecting loose.  Old glue on old bubbles seems like a recipe for disaster to me, plus less cost to buy.

Broken thumbs - that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking to know about before I get into it.  A common problem on that line I take it?

Common problem on the Indy figures in particular as I recall (broken thumbs) so either be sure you can see in the image and I'd probably ask because I recall seeing a couple of glued on thumbs (you could see the cracks in the images if you knew where to look) that weren't mentioned in descriptions.

Like vintage SW accessories can be tough to find complete too.  IIRC fakes abound at the same frequency as in SW vinty, so that's another question to ask.

I'm afraid I agree with you on the bubbles.  I won't fully rehash my story about my beautifully carded Gonk Droid that's no longer carded (technically).

I'll try for pics tomorrow.  Yep, definitely tomorrow, camera's dead.

Looking at my figs, I count 12 including those from the playsets:

Raiders:
1. Indy
2. Marion
3. Toht
4. Cairo Swordsman
5. Belloq Ceremonial Robe (mail away)
6. Sallah
7. Indy German Outfit
8. German Mechanic
9. Belloq
10. Monkey Man (from Streets of Cairo playset)
11. Marion crouched (from Streets of Cairo playset)
11.5 monkey (Streets of Cairo)
12. Indiana Jones Arab disguise (map room playset)
13. Horse which I don't own so didn't count

Playsets
1. Streets of Cairo
2. Map Room
3. Well of Souls

And then there's the vintage truck, which I also do not own.

I don't know if you're doing vintage Indy or just Hasbro vintage Indy because LJN had the figures for Temple of Doom.  They are substantially out of scale from the Hasbro figures (vintage or modern) but are still kind of cool.  The pics will show this really well when I post them.  There were only three figures released (Willy and Short Round weren't produced):
Indy
Mola Ram
Giant Thuggee or as the website calls him, Giant Huggee

Ok a few photos of the Indy collection:

Whole thing including modern and a GG bust plus some other crap mixed in:

Not a great picture of the LJN stuff, but you can see the relative scale of the figures compared to the 3.75" scale.  Especially with the modern and vintage Giant Thuggee one in front of the other:

The twelve original vintage Hasbro figures I listed in the previous post.  You can see bits of the three playsets as well.  Regular Belloq and German Mechanic are fairly obscured.

Definitely TONS of repro accessories...  Tho the pistols were so small I find them more acceptable than Star Wars repro gear for some reason.  I think I lost Indys fun in say 2 seconds testing out that quick draw feature. :)

who doesnt love showing off their stuff.  i always liked this site as a reference. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Chamber/5185/indy.html

Old pics though. I have a complete set (although not all pictured) of the Kenner and LJN figures except for the convoy truck. Added MOC Bellloq and MOC Mola Ram. I always wanted to grab at least one of the cheap looking "last crusade" figures but never got around too it.

What is the Grail Knight looking at down there? Or did Mutt just whack him in the back of the head?

Thanks guys.

Brent, the photos are very helpful.  I think I've got the basics of the check-list down (isn't that hard with so few items).

Any variations to watch out for?

Stellar Hasbro quality control is the answer I'm afraid.  That's how he stands, with the aid of a stand.  I'm absolutely amazed he hasn't fallen off the shelf yet.

Any variations to watch out for?

None that I'm aware of Rob, or at least none interesting enough to pursue or remember.  No uniform color variations that are caused by factory, no small-mouthed Indy's or anything like that.  Pretty limited run and popularity so I don't think there was opportunity.

Wow! Incredible collection there guys. I've always thought the Indy stuff was really expensive. I only have a Indy figure and the Well of the Souls playset. Make sure you get all the snakes from that set.

Sorry Brent, I put this little crusade on the back burner for now (again) and I never came back here to see about the answer to that question - thanks regardless.  I'm hoping to start to pick a few up in the new year.
