Seconded! I just got back and have zero complaints. I was as geeked for this as any movie since "Watchmen" and it did not disappoint in any way.

Highly recommend the 3-D version too. It was amazing, second only to the Hobbit IMO as far as a truly immersive experience. Kind of hyped to see the 3-D IMAX version now. My head might explode.

Good actors, good plot, freaking off the chain effects, just the right balance of humor/drama/etc. If I had to find something negative to say the worst thing I could think of would be that maybe it drags a little in the middle between robot fight scenes. But I could watch two solid hours of giant robots fighting huge monsters so that's just me. 

Good popcorn flick for sure, action packed, yet not totally mindless. It has its share of occasional corn, but there were definitely more than a few "**** yeah!" moments in there. All the robots were freaking awesome, and the creatures too, although they seemed less unique as the movie went on. All the stuff in the breach was waaay cool.

Just conceptually brilliant stuff, del Toro has really delivered a future classic here. Five badass stars from me!

I was gonna pass it by because I'm tired of collapsing sky scrapers and Del Toro seems to excellence at concepts/style but less so at story (The fact that Blade 2 and Hellboy 2 are almost the same movie). But I might change my mind.

Box office results from Thursday early shows came in good  > $3 million.  That points to a fairly successful weekend.  I think this is a film we sci-fi geeks should support.  Del Toro indicated he'd like this to become a franchise, and given the great reception this has received I'm gonna pony up my cash to help that happen.

Really? Had not heard that...a franchise would be truly excellent though. Sleeping on it has not diminished my enthusiasm one iota - that was one kick-ass movie.

It works fine as a standalone film to be sure, but he's created an interesting enough world that there is a lot more they could explore. Even a Hannibal Chau spin-off movie would be freaking sweet.

Really glad I bought the toys now too, those things are excellent.

I think that the international numbers for Pacific Rim will probably be very big.  The concepts are very much an homage to classic Japanese monster movies like Godzilla and Anime movies.  Some of the cast looks good.  And Guillermo del Toro has done some awesome work from a purely visual standpoint.  He also understands that those visuals should serve the story, and not the other way around.

Great news on the foreign front. Warner Bros says Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim opened #1 in all 7 Asian markets on Thursday grossing a total $3.7M from 2,157 screens despite a crowded international marketplace. Korea made $1.4M from 961 screens, Taiwan: $611K from 199 screens, Thailand $559K from 273 screens, Malaysia $348K from 207 screens, The Philippines $283K from 277 screens, Indonesia $249K from 168 screens,  Singapore $240K from 72 screens.

Just got back from Pacific Rim and am really surprised that it has been getting such good reviews from viewers and critics. The movie was ok, monsters were cool, but the acting was pretty terrible. Wasn't really that impressed overall.

Just got back from Pacific Rim and honestly I wish I had wasted the money on Grown Ups 2 instead.

Terrible acting, terrible fight scenes, lame characters, cliche plot... literally the ONLY interesting thing about the movie was Charlie Day, and also Ron Pearlman, although he only interacted with Charlie Day so that's probably why. I would have walked out if I wasn't driving three people and didn't have an open tab at Alamo Drafthouse.

Hands down the worst movie of the summer out of all that I have seen. Even worse than Star Trek, which was actually good until the last 30 minutes.

I had the opposite reaction, maybe because my expectations were so low. I liked it better than IM3 and Star Trek ID. I agree that the acting was poor (as a fan of Sons of Anarchy, I now see that Charlie Hunnan has zero range), but as a sheer, mindless summer blockbuster/popcorn flick, Pacific Rim was guilty fun.

I found myself smiling throughout, but I agree there were missteps.  The two researchers were awful.  Pulled from bad caricatures of awful Saturday morning cartoons.  They were completely out of place.  Same for Ron Perlman, IMO.  Those characters were too over-the-top and really pulled me out of the film.  But I liked the principals.  I liked the Australians and the Americans.  I would have loved to have seen more of the Russians and Chinese.  If the film had focused solely on the teams I think it would have been a much stronger and emotionally impactful experience.

Still I thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the film. I'd love to see a sequel.
