Walmart Black Series 3.75" Wave 1
« on: September 4, 2015, 01:46 AM »
First wave is starting to pop up on Walmart.com...

Price = $12.93 and all repacks so far. :(

- Darth Vader
- Chewbacca
- ROTJ Luke Skywalker

And yes, like the rumor that popped up this AM, they are BOXED like the 6" stuff.

Worst first wave ever. Even wave 1 Movie Heroes was better than this.

So that really is the old cut elbow Vader? Like people are saying?

Yikes.

Truer words...

How can they expect this line's past to be its future?

This exclusive wave is one of the few segments of the 3.75" figure line where I have some optimism.  But still, look at this lineup:

___  Rey (Jakku)
___  Finn (Jakku)
___  Poe Dameron (X-Wing Pilot)
___  Princess Leia Organa (Yavin Medal Ceremony)
___  Kylo Ren
___  First Order Stormtrooper
___  Darth Vader (The Empire Strikes Back) REISSUE
___  Chewbacca REISSUE
___  Han Solo (Return Of The Jedi)  LIKELY REISSUE
___  Luke Skywalker  (Return Of The Jedi) REISSUE

Very likely 40% of this wave is comprised of reissues based on the images we've seen so far.  I get that Hasbro and retailers want to keep some of these characters in the mix.  They're big draws.  In the case of Chewbacca, his appearance in Episode 7 isn't really all that different from the OT.  But why not go with Episode 7 versions of Han or Luke?

As for the new Episode 7 characters in this wave?  I'm refraining from buying the 5POA versions of Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron so that I can get superior SA versions like I'm hoping this wave will offer.  But I suspect that with army building potentially picking up again, the First Order Stormtrooper from this wave could be one of the hottest figures of the line, and very tough to find.

Do I like that WalMart got these?  Ugh.  I really dislike the way that WalMart handles exclusives.  Their track record is not the best.  But I also suspect that Hasbro was playing the numbers game in this instance.  WalMart has over 4500 stores domestically.  Far more than Target and TRU combined.  While I prefer shopping at either of those chains, WalMart simply has more stores.  So *MAYBE* this time around they won't f**k it up so badly in terms of distribution.

Yeah, I'm definitely not thrilled about Wal-Mart getting these either.  Our local store has been pretty awful with exclusives, but I'm hoping they'll be available online and it won't be like SDCC to try and get an order in.  These definitely seem like they'll be hot, particularly the new figures.

Yeah. I can't remember the last time my local WM's had any 3.75 figures before yesterday. I want these bad. This is the line I'm most interested in, but fear I'll not be able to track them down.

I saw a report that someone found ANOTHER Vader to rave about.  Notably from this wave, so it appears to be hitting WalMart stores already.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the 500th Figure Meditation Chamber Vader figure that has been reissued every year and wasn't even a great figure back when it originally came out in 2005.

Yeah, going back to that Vader is just disappointing.  It's really dated at this point.

If they had re-issued the "improved" TBS SA Vader (the one where the head actually stays on), I may have had a reason to buy one.  I have zero interest in that 500th Vader again though.  :(

I would even be happy with the ANH themed Vader from 30AC/Vintage. That costume doesn't get enough love.

I saw the first wave today at a Walmart just outside of NYC today. Hasbro has definitely gotten a lot of mileage out of that 500th Vader, and that plus what looked like VOTC Chewbacca and deleted scene Luke were there, too.  I liked the Luke, so I picked up that figure.  There were at least 2 or 3 of each, although I wasn't able to see what the case pack was like.

I hope WM doesn't judge the line based on sales of re-packed figures. And I hope these aren't carried forward in the wave 2 cases.

My WM had a full case of these, now only 3...  Could these actually move?  Shockingly mine are if not a little on the gradual side.  There is now an equal Wv8 to WM Wv1 ratio too.  Color me shocked.  If it helps me get WM Wv2, yay.  Also, all the Vaders... Gone.  Apparently people will pay $13 for the old Vader. :x

I picked up one of the Chewbacca's tonight and noticed that all of the Darth Vaders were gone.  Looks like he's still a good seller.
This is the way.

I have spoken.
