Price Gouging Clonetroopers?
« on: August 26, 2003, 08:17 PM »
Maybe it's just me,  but everywhere I've been so far the price for the Clonetrooper 3 pack has been on average $10.99.  Today when I picked up the Saga Tie Fighter at KB,  I noticed a CT pack with the blue variant on the shelf.  I was about to purchase it,  when I noticed the price...

$14.99 >:(

Has anyone else experienced this,  or is it just some manager/employee trying to make an extra buck?  Needless to say it remained on the shelf.

I don't think they are worth 14.99.  The standard $11 yes.

I was just at a store that some would consider expensive:  Toys R Us in Times Square.  They had the Clone Troopers for $11.99 each.  Considering it was the first time I've ever seen the Blue version at retail EVER, I thought it was acceptable.

Because I like these a lot, I wouldn't complain too much about paying $14.99.  It's not the end of the world.

I guess I'm really complaining cause I didn't have the extra $14.99 to get 'em.  Oh well,  they will be mines at some point. ;D

check out Targets, I just picked up the Jedi 3-pk tonite and it rang up for $9.99 which should be the price for all of these sets, a pretty good deal.

Spoiled Amerikaners :P

You can talk all ya want about them being expensive, but they'll be $19.99 in Canada if we get them.  And yeah, there is the exchange rate, but ain't nobody paying me in US dollars.

Suck it up and quit whining :-* ;)

I've never seen any 3-pack at any Target in my area.  I've only found them at TRU.

A fellow local collector was telling me that KayBee has marked these up.  That's kind of bogus, IMO.

I don't think Meijer stores are nationwide but they go for $9.99 there. The White Clones and Droids have been showing up at these stores, here in Michigan anyway, enmasse. Today at a nearby Meijer's I found the Blue and Green Clone versions. Just another place to look for these if you are collecting the CW line and ya got a Meijers near you.

Good luck,
Todd

The Meijers store by my house never has any Star Wars stuff in stock.  They have the same figures from November there (Lott Dodd, Jango Fett, etc).   >:(

I guess KB sees an opportunity to gouge a few more dollars out of us.  Kinda sucks, but I guess I can live with it since they have all of those earlier SAGA figures for so cheap.

I picked up a set of the Green Clone Trooper 3-pack for $14.99 today at KayBee.  Not very cool, but these things are scarce.

I think KB sat back and said you know what we are blowing out of the Clones and Jedi (and droid packs but not as quickly)... but now are sitting on these crap a** droid launchers...

They know it's going to end up taking them blowing these things out at like 3 bux before anyone touches them. So they lose money on them in that case... so raise the price on the sets in general and still seel them out at $14.99 that way when you need to blow the others at 3 bux you haven't lost all that much...

Price gouging? Not sure I'd call it that... in this case it's being a bit smarter...

Also one thing I just found out this week I never knew was that KB sells on eBay. I guess they've been doing it since Feb 2003 but this is the first I knew of it...
I just find it really odd that a big box retailer decides to that route... ???
Gotta love me or leave me alone....
