It's weird around Pitt right now...  Some places, seemingly places that know they've got you by the balls because there's few other stations around them, jacked their prices from $2.19-ish up to $2.25 one night...  Now some of those are up to $2.29 (just when I wanted to fill up ::) ).

Yet others are at $2.19 yet, mostly where the competition is thicker, and one chain which usually is good about prices anyway is $2.17.  I think things seem fishy myself, but it is what it is...  I really hoped we'd see it under $2 though.  :(

The one interesting thing that I've noticed is that gas prices have gone up a little bit since the election. Hmmm, coincidence?

Most likely.  I don't know how certain parties can control the price of a commodity that is traded worldwide.

I still don't see how corporations/special interest groups can have an affect on the price of a commodity that is traded worldwide for political gain.

It's not that hard. In fact, the article I linked to gives a clue to one way in which it's done. Take a viable crop and purposefully not cultivate, or in this case drill, and you create an artificial shortage. The Diamond industry controls the price of their commodity in their sleep by hoarding 70% of the world supply.

As for the price going up after the election, I'm the first person in line to say that the price increase over the last few years is BS, but even I have to concede that there are certain patterns which must be maintained, such as standard price increases for the coming holiday season.

Oil continues to drop - now to an 18 month low.

But gas prices are holding steady around 2.20, a full .20 more than they were 4 or 5 months ago, when oil cost about 6 or 7 dollars per barrel more.

What's the deal?!

Of course I forgot that OPEC has been cutting production - by 1.7 million per day.

That explains the price not dropping very far - greedy OPEC wanting to keep their bottom line up.

Have we found an alternative energy yet??   :-\

Wouldn't it be actually nice if it worked the way it should?  Raw materia prices drop, and end product prices drop, but I'm still stuck at the $2.25 to $2.40 price point in Delaware.  I think the gas companies have been cut way too many breaks and are getting away with charging whatever they want.  Oil prices drop by dollars a barrel and gas prices stay virtually unchanged.  However, if the oil prices go up a nickel, gas prices go up two dimes.
