CLONE VALUE PKS VS. CLONE MULTI PKS
« on: September 11, 2003, 10:57 PM »
Hmmm... which does everyone like more?

I have found several of each color now of the multi-pk army-builders, and like them a lot.  But now that I have luckily found the Clone War Value pks too, I find myself leaning towards them somewhat.  They are so freaking awesome.

Both are a great value; both are very cool and great ideas by Hasbro.  Both should be very successful.  They blend in great together too in dioramas.

Question though, which Clones do you prefer?

Well, I've found the multi-packs, but not the value packs yet.  I think both have their pluses and minuses.

-PRICE POINT:  Multi-packs are $10 - $15 for 3 minimally articulated figures;  The value packs are added on to existing Clone Wars figures at a sub $5 price point.  ADVANTAGE:  Value Pack

-SCULPT/ARTICULATION:  The sculpts are pretty cool on the multi-packs.  However, the articulation is severely lacking;  The sculpt and the articulation are both good on the value pack Clone Troopers.  ADVANTAGE:  Value Pack

-ARMY BUILDING:  This one seems applicable.  With the multip-pack, you've got 5 different ranks represented in 4 different poses.  Quite an addition to any army builders displays.  The Value Packs have the disadvantage of being packaged with individual characters.  The Anakin Skywalker and Yoda are nice, but not nice enough to buy lots of them so that you can add more Commanders and Lieutenants to your army.  The ARC Trooper appears to be the saving grace here, with it's own army builder status and a white Clone Trooper as the added value.  A tough call here, but ADVANTAGE:  Multi-pack.

The criteria are probably different for everyone, but that's my take.  I think the value pack clones are great (having quite a few of the red SAGA ones already), they just aren't totally conducive to army building.

Figure wise I prefer the Value pack one, better articulation and fits in better with a neutral stanced version of the clone army better...that is not saying I hate the Multi-packs, I love having the different static poses and colors of clones finally

I loathe the execution because if you do want to do any sort of clone army building you are stuck with 50 Bandito Yodas which may be the worst figure on the shelves right now...so they could have done better.

Kudos though for realizing this whole thing was foolish to begin with and the fact that people will buy the Yoda just to get a Yellow Clone means the whole thing isn't a complete waste.  Two Figures for the price of one also means they are gouging us to begin with though too ;)

For me the Value packs win out.  One, because I can't find the mutli packs anywhere, and two, because I only wanted one of each rank for my modest army.  So all I really want of the multi-packs is the green kneeling set.

So far I have only found the (White, Blue and Green) Multipacks here in Indy. So I cannot really make a fair judgement. But from the looks of things, the Value packs have the better price point and the multipacks have army builders. So my answer is well, undecided.

I am really not interested in building clone armies so I like the Value Packs a bit more.  Plus I was probably going to buy the single card figs but now that they have the clonetroopers free I'm opting for those instead.  I like the clone 3pack idea quite a bit though and may buy some eventually.  Right now I'm digging the value packs.  Although I have only found 1 value pack and 1 Blue clonetrooper 3 pack.

Great points there guys.  I really can't make a 100% judgement yet until I have the Clone multi-pk with the yellow Clone in it.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Nicklab on all the points he made.
I guess I like the Multi-packs just a bit more since I'm making a diorama but the value packs are great for the break up of so much white.  I have nephews and neighbor kids that will take my extra Yoda's and Anakin's off my hands!! ;)

Now that I have the yellow multi-pk, I must say that I think Hasbro has done an outstanding job on both ideas.

The only thing I kinda dislike about the multi-pks is that the paint on the Clones isn't as shiny as the paint on the Clones from the bonus pks.  Not that big a deal though.

UN-FREAKIN'-BELIEVABLE!!!   :o

I've been reading many reports of Wal-Marts across the country cutting the cards in half, so that they could sell each of the two figures individually at $5 each.  Can you believe that crap!?!?   >:(  If you see this happen in your local Wal-Marts you should complain to the store manager about that, and how you should report them to the Better Business Bureau.  That's what I would do.

That sounds pretty sketchy.  Reason being, the barcode is only on the underside of the regular figure's bubble.  How are they able to scan the Clone Troopers?

Not sure how they can scan those Clone Troopers.  I was very much disgusted when I read the first report about it.

It turns out that this might not be WalMart's doing.  I've heard of more incidents, and I have a theory.

Have any of the reports included findings of the Clone Troopers or the ARC Trooper from the value packs?  My guess would be no.  I can see this happening:  someone (probably an army builder) buys one complete set, but wants more of the Clone Troopers.  However, they don't want more of the Anakin's and Yoda's.  Those two figures both have the barcode on them.  So, the person who bought them might be cutting the cards, keeping the bonus Clone Troopers, and returning the Yoda's and Anakin's.  They're then getting their money back, and effectively getting the Clone Troopers for free.  PROVIDED the return clerk isn't a complete dullard, and might actually notice that something's wrong with the incomplete cardback.

Nice scam, huh?

I can see where you're coming from with that one Nick, but I don't think anyone could possibly be that stupid (as in the employee from Wal-Mart).  You think when they ring it up that it would at least say "Value Pack," which usually means more than one of something in particular.  I would really love to hear what Wal-Mart has to say about this, but none of the Wal-Marts by me have ever gotten these in yet.

However, it is a feasable theory you have there Nick.

This is easily done.
You hit WalMart prime time when the store is jammed and the line at the service desk is long. No employee is going to check the back of the card... nevermind the fact that there is a 99% chance they don't know the difference on the cardback or not.

I wouldn't chock that up to stupidity on their part. Although pointing it out to when you see it can help.

I can truly say w/ 100% conviction that I do not believe any WalMart store is cutting these intentionally. I mean even on their slowest day WalMart has a lot more to do than have someone sit out back and pay them to cut cards in half on value packs. Also how would they ring up the Clone figure w/ no bar code?

It's just some scumbag returning the no army builder and getting his army established for free. Basically robbing them... plain and simple.
Gotta love me or leave me alone....
