I think it's been a long time since there has been a really good Simpsons episode.  It may be time for them to find some new writers.  Or maybe there aren't any more situations to put the family into.  It's hard to say.  Last night's show was not horrible.  It had it's moments.  The CBG thing could have been funnier.  I liked the Mario/Homer Kong thing.  The Pac Man wedding was kind of funny, too.  But overall, the show is not what it used to be.  Family Guy is way better.  American Guy needs work.

I thought that was a surprise as well, hearing CBG's name like that.  I didn't think the episode was horrible, and still laughed here and there, but it was just built up to be bigger than it was I think.  I agree, the Simpsons aren't going anywhere, and I'm glad for that.  I still enjoy watching it, even if many feel it isn't as consistently funny as it used to be.  I wasn't overly impressed with American Dad either.  I thought it was fairly funny at parts, but like others have said, it seemed too much like Family Guy....only not as good.  Can't wait for the new episodes of that to start in May though, should have never left the air honestly.  I thought it was hilarious the first time it was on Fox, but they were so inconsistent with its' airtimes it was tough to find it.

I fell asleep during it. Missed the name revelation. Sounds like I didn't miss much.

It was a glorious evening indeed... they broadcast the first ever High Definition episode of The Simpsons!  And to pull it off, they changed the opening sequence!  They redid the entire thing... updated it significantly... added a bunch more gags.  It was the first time they've changed anything besides the chalkboard and couch in 19 years, if I'm not mistaken.

I honestly can't remember the last time I watched a new episode of the Simpsons. Every time I remember it's on it ends up being another "Marge and Homer separate" episode. Everything from 2003-present is just a big blur. I'm much happier watching my DVD sets (especially anything in Seasons 4-9).

I'll have to check out this new intro on YouTube however. I wonder if there will be a lot of backlash ala the Homer head DVD set - Simpsons fans don't really care for change. :P

It was strange to see something new.  Everything was just a little more dynamic and fluid.  It was all essentially the same scenes, just modified.  Like Bart rode on his skateboard past the octuplets instead of Bleeding Gums.

They actually changed the opening two weeks ago when there was a new episode. I am so glad the show got picked up for 2 more years. It has been a long time since it has been as good as it used to be but it still is a great show.

My DVR didn't tape it two weeks ago... must have been preempted by something.  I'm glad I was there last night to watch it... stupid NASCAR race ran 30 minutes long.  Anybody on the East Coast who recorded it missed it.

This Sunday Fox will air the 500th episode of The Simpsons.  I'm gonna actually sit down and watch the thing live instead of DVR.  It's an occasion worth celebrating!   ;D

Interesting article about it:

‘The Simpsons’ Showrunner Al Jean Talks About The Bumpy Road To Episode No. 500

Quote
Regarding how long The Simpsons can conceivably continue, Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly said during TCA in January that the show has “3 1/2 more seasons in the can.” Jean noted today that everyone is signed for 559 episodes in the latest deal.

I still love the show.  There have been some good ones this season.  The episode where Homer became Glenn Beck was particularly inspired.

I haven't watched this show in years, but I still pick up the box sets for some reason.  Maybe I'll make an event out of it and catch the 500th episode.

#everysimpsonsever marathon on FXX has reminded me how awesome the first 8 or 9 seasons of the Simpsons were... and how it was pretty much downhill from there.   :-\
