Apparently, a teaser for the 2007 movie was shown prior to some screenings of Ice Age 2 this weekend.  Also, if anyone watched the Simpsons last night, it was shown during the show as well.  Very short, but it did announce that the Simpsons movie would be hitting theatres on July 27, 2007.

I'd be really excited if this wasn't 10 years too late. I'll still probably go see it though...

Would some please put this franchise out of it's misery?  The show has been unfunny for years now.

What are you talking about, "out if its misery?"   ;)

The Simpsons show is still going strong and they never seem to run out of material.  I look forward to watching it each Sunday.  I love it and think it's hilarious that they are making a movie and can't wait to see it.

Chewie,

I've been a loyal fan (and still watch every Sunday) for I don't know how long and love everything up to Season 12.

You have to admit, the past five years have nothing on the first ten or so.

The greatest shows of our time know when to hang it up - Seinfeld and Cheers are great examples.

Other great shows - ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT - die too soon!   >:(

Well I just happen to disagree, I think the latest episodes are still great.  The one where Homer almost dies over and over when Marge tries to get life insurance on him is one of the funniest episodes ever, and I know that was in the past 5 years.  I know there are some classics from the first seasons that everyone will remember, but I don't think that's any reason to cancel the series.  It has a very strong following and you even watch the new ones still!  I know what you mean that Seinfeld and Cheers hung it up when they needed to, but remember this is a cartoon, the characters don't age, and in my opinion the series hasn't aged either.  I think they still have tons of fresh material and would be sad to see the show end.  They just renewed it for 2 more seasons by the way.   :)

I guess since I've been watching it hardcore for 17 years now, starting when I was 11, it's one of those things that I've done all my life and is a link to my childhood.

I'm 28 as well and I still remember watching them on the Tracy Ulman show.  Loved it even though they looked pretty fugly back in the day compared to now.  I hardly watch the show as much as I would like, but I still get a kick out of it everytime I get around to watch.  Gotta love those Halloween specials too  ;D

Bring on the movie I say!!  Dare I ask if there's any computer animation in it?

You said it. The only saving grace is that Mike Sully is involved. 10 years ago the people who made the show what it is, Brad Bird, Conan O'Brian and Mike Sully, were writing and the show hasn't been the same since they've been gone.

Apparently you can watch a little bit of rough footage from the upcoming Simpsons Movie (2007) that was shown at Comic-Con.  Here's the YouTube linky.

Oops, sorry, nevermind.  It was basically about two minutes total of basic, black and white, animatic footage - but things looked good.  I'm really looking forward to seeing the Simpsons on the big screen.
