Wow My work place history is at that site:
Quote
In Walnut, the heavy rain collapsed the roof of a Von's Supermarket.
That was some fun times clean up that place and dealing with the custormers who wouldn't listen to me as I told them the store was closed.

I say I have been in two tornados event  the one above and another one a few years later.  I need to try and find that one next.

The Tornado on Refinery Row is right across the river back from my parents house. It was not a good sight when I got home from work.  :'(

Too hilly here for Tornadoes to hit often.  Sometimes, and usually in a large flat area (IE: a trailer park), but not often otherwise.

One touched down on Mt. Washington one year though in the city, which freaked everyone out.

Mt. Washington is the cliff that overlooks the city of Pittsburgh.  Very scenic, very pretty, very wealthy area (on the front half at least).  The thing just plopped down and took off again.  Freaked the whole area out when it happened because there wasn't any warning, and it's RIGHT on top of a huge hill (the term "mount" is deceiving, it's not a mountain).

Weird...  Couple hit out near me in the past...  They tend to travel up the rivers here, if they hit at all though.  I did see one years ago when I was 14 or so on a camping trip on the Allegheny River.  Watched it go right down the river after it formed.  Scary as hell.

That sir, unfortunaley is a myth.Tornados can hit anywhere...it's very hilly here on the spine of the appalachians and yet not more than 20 years ago we had an F4 tornado.

I love tornados. Not the fact that they kill people you understnad. But I'm incredibly mesmerized by their destructive force. I've done storm chasing in the past, it's really fun, as long as you know what you're doing.

They can hit, I agree Vator...  I didn't say they can't hit here.  THey do.  The topography isn't "ripe" for it though I've been told.  They're less likely to hit a hilly area, and generally when they do it's in the low lying valleys I'm told.

The one that hit Mt. Washington right on its "peak" if you will was really weird though as far as a Tornadoes usual features.  That's what the weather service said at the time anyway.  They expected it to hit the rivers down below, like at downtown, if anywhere.

Second tornado today just hit about 3 miles north of my house. This is crazy, we never get duel cells that become tornadic.
