A short-termed collecting interest of mine from a few years ago has reared its ugly head again.

I've taken up collecting vinyl albums again. I used to do this without the aid of the internet, so if anyone knows of some reputable selling or info sites, I'd much appreciate them. Google got me nowhere. Or if you've got some for sale, LMK. I'm searching for stuph from the following bands:

Pearl Jam
KISS
Led Zeppelin
Metallica
Radiohead
Jimi Hendrix Experience, and recent release albums like South Saturn Delta
ESB and ROTJ soundtracks
Pink Floyd

And, for the other point for this thread- anyone else collect vinyl?

All of my vinyls are hand-me-downs from my father, but I've got a few Hendrix's, Zeppelin's, a clear-orange Beatles from Japan, Allman's, all that good stuff, really. I wouldn't say I actively collect them, as I haven't bought any myself, but I've got a good number of them and perhaps one day I'll buy a few. I think they're cool.  

Now if you wanna get really old school, we can talk about old Victrolla's. I've got 3 of those, all in working order.

Record shops are a rare commodity in Iowa. I really don't feel like driving to Iowa City or Des Moines to find them, so I'm hosed.

Hoo, there's a pile of record stores up here.  They never really went away here.  But...

You're going to kill me.  Not more than 6 months ago I gave away about 300 albums.  Mixed in that bunch were Japanese Master versions of The Wall (regular version) and the soundtrack to The Wall.  I think in the heyday I paid around $35 each for those two records.  The soundtrack had The Day the Tigers Broke Free (or whatever the specific title) which has been subsequently released on CD.  It also had a second song that has not, to my knowledge, ever been released anywhere but on that album in that pressing.  

Also in there were all of the major release Zeppelin albums.  Doors, Hendrix, a fair chunk of Kiss records.  To make it even worse, the bulk were original pressings.  I even had an Allman Brothers album that must have been better than a quarter inch thick.

Before I got a decent knowledge of the hobby, I sold a rare version of Kiss' first record for $5, and it's worth more like $25. Only then, I think it was fetching $50, because Kiss announced their Farewell Tour, and at the time, it looked like they were serious.


And, I passed on Pearl Jam's Binaural album for $10. It's now fetching $50 because it's out-of-print, as is Live on Two Legs. Oooof.

I love my record player.  Flea markets are a great place to stock up.  Up here, most "classic rock" records can be had for between $2 and $5.   The more knowledgable vendors will sell Zeppelin, Beatles, and Stones records for $10.  Still a great deal.
IMO, if an album pre-dates 1980, it always sounds better on vinyl.
The first album I "re-bought" after I got a record player again a couple of years ago was "Boston".  Sounds awesome on vinyl!

Just a few pics of what I got. It's nowhere near what I'd like it to be, but I chalk that up to a lack of local record stores and the utter crap that's on ebay. This isn't everything. I have some Metallica, Dio, Police, Simon and Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and the Iron Maiden I picked up today that aren't pictured here. Neither is Kiss' Music from the Elder album.

About 10-12 years ago, my wifes boss was converting his music collection over to CD format.  Well needless to say he knew nothing about vinyl.  Lucky me.  My wife came home with about 200 first issue mint records.  This guy took incredible care of them.  He was in his 50's at the time.  All rock.  I got rid of about half of them.  The others you would have to pry from my dead body. Stones, Beatles.  The nostalga opening some of those double  LP's and gawking at the art.  It is definitely an acquired art taste of yesterday. No CD's will ever fill that void IMO.
