Favorite Oldies Tune?
« on: March 6, 2004, 02:08 PM »
Whats your favorite oldies tune? I myself got into some of the oldies thanks to my resident oldies, my grandparents.

One of my favorite songs is "Rock and Roll is Here To Stay". Its a great good natured song.

Oldies like Louis Armstrong?  Oldies like Nat King Cole?  Oldies like Beethoven?

I really dig Nat King Cole...we featured him heavily at our wedding dance and got a lot of compliments because of it...my favorite song he does Very Thought of You

If your talking 50'-60's sort of stuff, can't beat Chuck Berry, and you really can't top Johnny B. Goode

I believe that song was by the Showmen.

I like anything and everything by the Temptations, especially "My Girl".

I can play that on the piano, good for me.

Another good oldie would have to be just about anything from Elvis... I don't care what any of you say - I like some of his stuff.

Chantilley Lace, by the Big Bopper...

Best Oldies synopsis CD is a good American Graffitti Soundtrack...  Lucas may make crappy movies sometimes, but usually the music's at least decent that's in them.  Save perhaps Howard the Duck which failed on every level.

Blasphemy!

Howard the Duck is a classic of our time (well, mine maybe).  It was so very bad it was hilarious.  Lea Thompson is the worst at pretending to play guitar (but I love her legs).

Leah's legs can also be seen in such classics as :

Murder, Anyone? (1982).
Jaws 3-D (1983)
All The Right Moves (1983)
The Wild Life (1984)
Red Dawn (1984)
Back To The Future (1985)
Space Camp (1986)
Howard The Duck (1986)
Some Kind Of Wonderful (1987)
The Wizard Of Loneliness (1988)
Yellow Pages (1988)
Casual Sex? (1988)
Nightbreaker (1989)
Back To The Future II (1989)
Montana (1990)
Back To The Future III (1990)
Article 99 (1991)
Stolen Babies (1993)
Dennis The Menace (1993)
The Beverly Hillbillies (1993)
The Substitute Wife (1994)
The Little Rascals (1994)
The Unspoken Truth (1995)
Caroline In The City (1995-1999)
The Right To Remain Silent (1996)
The Unknown Cyclist (1997)
A Will Of Their Own (1998)
Intimate Portrait: Lea Thompson (1998)
Fish Don't Blink (2001)
For The People (2002)
Electric (2002)
Haunted Lighthouse (2003)

And back to the topic - Is 'Hotel California' considered an oldie? If so, it's not bad at all.

It depends on the Era for me:

American Rock N Roll 1950's is 'Great Balls of Fire', by The Killer Himself
British Invasion Early 60's is 'Love Me Do', by the Beatles
American Mid 60's is 'Little Deuce Coup' by the Beach Boys
Late 60's Early 70's is 'Paint it Black' by the Rolling Stones.

My all time favorite is "Okie from Muskogee"

Speaking of all these good old songs is there anywhere you can download oldies these days?  I am trying to make a good Road Trip CD

House of the Rising Sun- The Animals
You've Lost That Loving Feeling- Righteous Brothers
Five O'Clock World- The Vogues

I dig some Supremes too. There's a great oldies station here, and I listen to that more than any other radio station.

"Lets go to the Hop" - or something like that.  Oldies rock and roll, so mean and nasty.  LOL.  I like the harmonizing vocals on this.
