As a result of the situation, we will not be processing any of the transactions placed Wednesday morning. You will need to place your order again when the shop reopens. All customers who placed an order before the site was taken down will be mailed a free set of Jedi movie patches and a $50 gift certificate to use for Star Wars merchandise on the site. We will give the entire Star Wars community sufficient notice before we relaunch the site.

are they nuts? now there's no way in hell they are going to have enough clone busts to satisfy the demand when they re-open. even if someone didn't order one before, with a free $50 to spend, why not grab one? maybe i can sell it on ebay for $200 in a month - thanks for screwing the fans lucas - again.

This is depressing news in one sense.  The GC on the other  hand is a nice touch and I still get my patches.

I wondering how many sets they have since many more then 500 orders where issued since people later in the day, hour #3 or 4 didn't get any patches.  So hopefully they have more then the 500 patches to give away and if they do I think that some people would be mad since they wouldn't of gotten them since they were order number 501+.

But aren't you guys getting a $50.00 gift certificate for the trouble? That's pretty generous and almost worth the hassle, isn't it? That's of course coming from me who was sound asleep during the whole fiasco.

I have to agree, this is very generous, I am happy.  I was second guessing my purchase of those post cards for $15, and the patches were a motivator for my impulse purchase.

However, I do hope the busts etc. are available for those who ordered or wanted them.

Also, take into consideration that the put their business partners name out there.  Heads are going to roll, expect a new e-commerce partner in the future or that company will take a big financial hit.

I was so happy that I got to order the Clone bust. Now I think we will all be screwed thanks to the Special Site.  :'(

Why oh why!?! What are they trying to do to use fans?
I already missed one exclusive bust, I do not hope to miss another. AHH!!
This sucks is a bad way.

I'm not upset that this is happening, its pretty ludicrous though that they hadn't worked out all of the bugs ahead of time.  Now I might actually get that McQuarrie Lithograph...

Yeah I'm upset over this but can't wait to see if I get two $50 GC or not (since I had two orders).  If it is the case I will look around to see if anything I like is available after getting the stuff I ordered before, is secured.  I wonder how much this is going to cost the company if they give out the $50 per order since alot of people ordered, if they had a few thousand orders then they are paying out big time money.  I wonder if the store will ever get over this.   ;)

I still don't understand why they can't honor the orders received.  There's no indication that the orders were erased or any other such nonsense, so just do so, rather than messing people around, notably on the bust.  Sheesh :(

Correction,  rest assured that Star Wars Shop.com's eCommerce partner Analysts International will be absorbing this cost.  Again for the site to put their name out there, clearly states that Star Wars Shop.com is holding their business partner responsible.

The outsourced their business need, and Analyst International made a big boo boo.

$50 an order = $
Free gifts = $
Shipping fees = $
Processing fees = $
Potential revenue lost during downtime = $$$$ :o$$$$

The folks over at Analyst International are working a bit of overtime to take the neecessary corrective action.

Time is money and money is time for a retail company.

I am in management for an outsource company and this is my insight into the matter.

And rightfully they should. I never considered the business partner publication until you pointed it out. That's an overwhelmingly stupid mistake for them to make - if a glaring problem is revealed in the first 3 hours of operation, then the transaction side of the site was poorly, poorly tested. I don't blame Lucas Online for pointing the finger at all. It's not only affected those who placed orders, but people like me sitting on the sidelines. I'm not exactly keen on placing an order until I know everything is in working order, if I ever order at all.

I mean, there's what, 100,000,000 porn sites that probably have more secure transaction methods.  ;)

I may have been a bit premature in assuming that GC makes up for it all last night. I hope everyone that ordered gets what they originally wanted without more hassle.

Analyst International should be hand-entering all of the cancelled orders so they can be fulfilled on the fixed secure site.

While I do think that this whole thing has been a total and complete disaster, free patches, $50 GC, or not, the one thing I am more worried about is people getting other people's order information.  Luckily, I received my own order info, but I have no idea if anyone else received mine by mistake.  The thing that worries me is that my email confirmation *did* include part of my credit card number (the typical XXXXX followed by the last few digits), and that is something I've never liked etailers doing in the first place.  So, while most of the number is hidden, if someone got someone else's order information, they also had access to part of their CC number, despite what the folks at SWShop or their partners say about it.

I seriously hope they iron out all the glitches before they open the site up again.  Still, it's going to be a pain when I try to reorder the Kermit and the site continues to crash because they've underestimated demand again.  As has been said before, I have a bad feeling about this.

WEll that makes me breathe a little easier.  Oh, did I say that out loud :-X

Is there a contact email for SSW.com?  I'm wondering if a bunch of geeks from boards send enough complaint emails in that we can get them to consider honoring the orders for the limited items, such as the clone trooper bust and Kermit?  I know that in many respects, it's a lame comment but it would take me about 5 minutes to write a suitable and polite complaint letter.  That would be worth it to me.  How about you?

I think it would make a difference to write a letter. Funny, the latest Roy Disney "Save Disney" letter arrived in my inbox. They are basically sending a form letter template to everyone on their mailing list that can signed and emailed to Eisner. I'm sure it would suitable to do something similar. Just draft it, post it, and have folks cut and paste it to be fired off to LO.

I'm hoping to see them do the customers they burned complete justice and not cause further hassles for others. Not that I'm positive that will happen, but I'm a stickler for customer service, and since this is a channel for exclusives, and don't want to be forced to give money to a company that doesn't deserve the business.

Here is an email address that someone posted at RS: customerservice@starwarsshop.com

I'm thinking about writing them and seeing what they are going to do to ensure those who have ordered te limited stuff will get it.

Thanks.  I shall draft a letter shortly.  It may accomplish nothing.

I'm not overly fearful of not getting my stuff, but I'd rather not have to worry about trying to see if the site is up every hour until it comes online.
