I don't have a lot to add to this either, but I do have two Chewie's.  The first one is from my childhood, and it has held up pretty well (although he lost his bowcaster along the way).  I picked up another loose, complete, C-9 version last year as well (for a vintage loose display...some day).  Always one of my favorite characters and figures, and one of the first ones I owned if I remember right.  Hung out in the Falcon with Trenchcoat Han a lot when I was a kid :).  A pretty nice figure overall I think too, the sculpt has held up reasonably well over the years, all things considered.

Sorry mosnob, but I have to disagree with your sculpt comment...

Being the hopeless Chewie fan and collector of said wookiee, I think the sculpt of the vintage Chewie leaves a lot to be desired.

The paint job also is a bit minimal. They could have given Chewie the Ammo strap and side bag as accessories rather then sculpt them on the actual figure. He also looks like he's right out of the shower. Chewie never looked that well groomed. Even for the victory celebration. He was fuzzy like he had a prell shampoo rather than limp and staright haired.

Personally, I like the sculpt more because of what it means to me from the good ole days and the memories...

Yeah, I agree with you Thomas, it isn't exactly a spectacular sculpt...but I guess for me it is the nostalgia as well.  It worked for me as a kid, but then again a lot of figures did that have been put to shame by many modern sculpts.  Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to imply it stands up among today's standards.

FOTW #2 to come this weekend.

One thing I really like about this vintage figure is it's weapon.  I dig how the bowcaster has the forearm fitting that no other weapon in the vintage line had.  If anyone has the time, post some clear pic's of the green bowcaster side by side with the original.  Also, the "green limb" version next to the original.

Being a bit colorblind that might help.

"Viva la vintage!"

I'll do my best to get up some images this afternoon. I finally may be able to carve out some time...

The scans of the bowcasters could be better. I'll let you all fight over the eccentricities of each chewie and bowcaster... I'll comment on them soon, just no time at the moment...

Really, I was thinking differently.  Look at the head sculpt, the one on the right looks more elongated.  Also, the bag color, not sure if it's do to fading.

Not sure if this the case with everyone else, but the only image (out of a total of 5) I am able to see is the vintage chewies. I think I might need to downsize these...

Anyway, with the vintage...

the 1977 on the left is has some paint wear, so that is why the bag is different. The neck sculpts seem slightly different and that may be due to the early bird being at an ever so slightly different angle. This also may explain why the early birds nose is catching more light. (Bad scans... I'll try a camera in the future. The color is more even all over on the vintage. The early bird has a slightly darker brown on the limbs. The biggest difference is the eyes. The vintage has more white and the early bird more blue. It iws really obvious from further away and tricks my eye when I try and find other differences.

I'll try and downsize these a bit and add more explaination soon...

I can only see the comparison pic of the two vinty Chewie's Thomas.

Took a quick perusal of the other thread and it seems I have an odd duck mentioned there.  Just like Wayne, I have a chewie with the drab green satchel.  He also has the greehish limbs.  Hong Kong 1977.  Is this the same as yours Wayne?

His eyes are quite wacky too.  Looks like someone did the paint by hand.  His right eye has a small area of blue with lots of white; the left eye is almost entirely blue.

I have a bowcaster somewhere around here, but think it might have fallen somewhere.  Hope the cat didn't eat it :o  I recall it being a bluish black color.
