So, say you were to have a car.  Pretend this car was a 1991 Toyota Celica on it's last legs, that you were planning to get rid of in a month or two anyway.  Now imagine that where you live, a huge, nasty hailstorm came through, and knocked out the back window of your Celica, along with causing a good dozen or so hail dents all over the hood and top of the car.

Are you with me so far?

So what would you do?  Remember, you're getting rid of the car in a few weeks, anyway, so is it worth spending the money to get the back window replaced (not even worrying about the hail damage)?  Or would you just tape up the back window with some plastic and bear with that until you get a new car?

(Oh, and also, you only have liability insurance, because your car's a piece of sh!t, so having the insurance pay for it is not an option.)

Scrap it now, and ride the bus for the next few weeks.

Scott ;)

Get an estimate for a new installed window and find out how much your car (if you can call it a car) is worth...

http://www.kbb.com/

If its the repair would restore a possible trade in value then go ahead and fix it, otherwise I say trade it in or donate it to charity and write off the value on next years taxes

Duck tape the window with some plastic. You may also want to Duck tape the dents so no one can see them!  :D

Another thought, perhaps you could scrounge up a 1991 Toyota Celica rear window from a Junkyard...maybe even off of eBay.

Thanks all for the advice so far.  Public transportation:  I'm in Oklahoma.  Definitely not an option.  Public transportation sucks here.

Leaning toward taping the dents up, but leaving the window open. . .

Now that's a thought!

Any idea of what sellers I should try to deal with?

Do you have a place that you can pick parts. We have Pick Your Part.

Pick Your Part

Maybe something like this is what you are looking for. Have a look in the phone book or ask around.

I've heard people SAY "duck" tape before, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually spell it out that way. Hilarious.

For the record, it's "Duct" tape, and aside from the thousands of things MacGuyver used it for....it was named that for it's wonderful ability to repair air ducts (like your dryer vent for example) without the aid of metal or welding.

Hmmm--I remember that guy.  We've had some rocky times in the past, but maybe we could work out a deal now.

I'd be willing to trade him a tenth of my DVD knowledge for a rear window.

That'd give me my rear window, and he'd increase his DVD expertise by like a hundred percent.

Duck Tape Club

Proving two things:

1) JoshEEE is not always right

2) There is, indeed, a website for everything

You, sir, are the King of Good Ideas, and don't let anybody else ever tell you differently.

On another note:

I love how every thread I start seems to turn into a clusterf--k.
