Helter Skelter
« on: May 17, 2004, 11:08 AM »
Did anyone watch this movie, about the horrific events that happened in the best year of 1969?  It was weird, really put things in to perspective for me on how crazy, Manson really was.  And how he brainwashed all those girls.

If anyone saw it what did you think?

What I want to know is how a high school kid considers a year he wasn't even born in "the best year"?

I'd personally like to nominate 1984 as the best year ever.  Who's with me???

The 80's had some good years...  I'd nominate the first year of the G.I. Joe ARAH line the best year ever...  198freakin'2 baby.

K-Mart just opened on the hill from me (a big deal then), G.I. Joe was brand new and on that stores pegs in abundance, and I was a wee child loving everything about those toys.

Yo Joe!

1984

Summer Olympics
Check out these movies
CHeck out the music
Reagan wins reelection
Space Shuttle Launches
The Prime of Atari
The Prime of MTV
Celtics/Lakers
The Prime of the Oilers
Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson

'87 and '89 were also a great years IMO but nothing tops '84 in my book

I didn't catch it, but I've been watching a lot of the other "made for TV" mass murderer movies, like the ones on Bundy and Dahmer.  Caught 'em both on Showtime or HBO.  Don't remember.  Still want to see the Nightstalker one too, plus this Manson one.

As for which year(s) were the best, I think that's best saved for it's own thread.  But yeah, why do you think 1969 was the best Matt?  That's a little strange...  I'd have to say 1970 myself, since that's when God first blessed this fortunate planet with my existence...   8)

Space Shuttle Launches

Were did you get that from? The Space Shuttle made its 1st launch in 1981. There were 8 missions after that then 5 in 1984.

The orbiter Enterprise was only a test vehicle & premiered in 1977.

I'll accept 82, the year I graduated high school :o  Drinking age up here is 18 by the way (something to do with winter and retaining sanity, methinks).  I had a hell of a senior year, an incredible summer and a great first term at University.  Mmm, beer.

Officially, 1969 is the best year ever, for one simple reason:

"I think I bust' a button on my trousers.  Don't want my trousers to fall down now, do ya?"

(But I know why Mainlando Calrissian likes it the best:

I got my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it till my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life (hey)

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you! yeah

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
(oh ya!)
Back in the summer of '69
(oh)
Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever - forever, no...
(yeah)
And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six string
I think about you wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life (oh yeah)
Back in the summer of '69 (uh huh)
It was the summer of 69 (oh yeah)
Me and my baby in 69
Oooh, hey
It was the summer
Summer, Summer of 69
Hey

(I love you, old avatar.  Look at your game, girl.)

I saw the Nightstalker one, it was a very weird, scary film.  The Manson one was not to bad, I want to see the original 1970's version.

There's a time for living
Time keeps on flying
Think you're loving baby
But all your doing is crying

CHORUS:

Can you feel
Are those feelings real
Look at your game, girl
Look at your game, girl

What a mad delusion
Living in that confusion
Frustration and doubt
Can you ever live without the game

The sad, sad game
Mad game
Just to say loves' not enough
If it can't be true
Oh, you can tell those lies baby but you're only fooling you

CHORUS

Can you feel
I know those feelings ain't real
Then you better stop trying
Or you're gonna play crying
Stop trying
Or you're gonna play crying
Stop trying

That's the game
Sad sad game
Mad game
Sad game

(spoken)
Thanks, Chas

I remember watching the Nightstalker movie back when it first appeared on television, my parents were gone that night (may of been in Hawawii) and my grandmother was watching us.  I was 9 years old at the time and was having some bad time at school becuase of ongoing events that were happening here in L.A at the time.  While we were watching the movie a dog started to howl/bark in the neighborhood and my grandmother makes the comment that "when a dog howl/barks it means someone was going to die".  Having been told this while watching this movie scared me alot more then just watching the movie alone.

The Nightstalker is a great show. I got them on VHS.

When I was a kid, last century,  ;)  I remember watching the original episodes of The Twilght Zone & Outer Limits. Some of them scared the bejebus out of me.

To watch them now I just laugh at them.  ;D
