Non-spoiler policy for the OTC?
« on: May 19, 2004, 10:10 AM »
I was just reading the cardbacks for the OTC figures over at GH, and I noticed something very interesting. There is no mention of Luke being Vader's son anywhere on these cards. Even the final duel Vader makes no mention of it. Is there some sort of non-spoiler policy for the 5 or so people that don't know about Luke and Vader? Will these hypothetical people be surprised when and if they buy the trilogy on dvd this fall?

I do think its kind of cool, in a retro way...  ;D

After reading Carpeteria's post on the child-like text on the cardbacks, you may just be on to something here Ed.  Maybe Hasbro IS totally gearing these things towards kids who are watching the DVDs for the first time, and not wanting to spoil the Vader/Luke father/son relationship for them.  That's be pretty funny, and kinda pathetic if that's really the case here, but it might just be.

Lame.

I kinda like them not revealing anything on the cardbacks; very nostalgia-esque.

Keen eye you have there Lando!

I just question if there's anyone, anywhere that doesn't know about Vader being Luke's father.

I mean, even this guy knows...

My nephews have never really seen all of the Star Wars films in order.  They have only seen pieces on TV.  I am going to give them the DVD set in september as an early X-mas present.  I am pretty sure that they don't know that Vader is Luke's father.
FYI, they are 5 and 7.

That really is cool speedermike.  It's great to see a new generation being exposed to these masterpieces.  Long live STAR WARS! ;)

Well, if Hasbro's being "spoiler sensitive", the DVD folks sure aren't!  I just watched the new trailer at Hyperspace.com for the official DVD release, and they had spoilers galore in it, including the "I am your father" scene.  So I'd say it's just a coincidence that the figure's cardback's don't cover certain plot points.  I don't think Hasbro's intentionally trying to keep any OT "spoilers" from leaking.  They're just being a little vague in the cardback text is all...
