Anybody find OTC at retail yet?
« on: June 12, 2004, 09:55 PM »
I just read a report on RS in the Area Reports section that stated someone found some OTC at a Des Moines, IA Target.

This is the first I've heard of this. Anyone else finding these yet?

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com has the X-WIng and TIE in stock right now, so it's not impossible the figures are available at retail.

Edit: OK, the ships are now out of stock, but they do have Tanus for $11.99. :P

From what I've seen:

The OTC Role-Play lightsabers have turned up at RETAIL (Target/TRU).

The OTC Vehicles (X-Wing & TIE Fighter) have turned up at a few retail locations and most on-line shops (EE, Kebco, etc), all little guys who got stuff from Hasbro.  No signs at the big three yet...

The OTC figures have NOT been "confirmed" at retail yet, as far as I know.  None of the big sites is reporting it, and if they were out, someone would have a figure w/receipt pic.

The order on figure timing usually goes like this:

1 - EBay Auctions from Asia

*2 weeks pass*

2 - Asia Based On-Line shops start selling the figures

*2 weeks pass*

3 - On-Line scalpers er... Price Gouger er... "High Demand Product" On-Line stores get them (Action-HQ, Brian's Toys, Cloud City).  These are the stores who pay a crapload to have the items air-shipped from Asia.

*2 weeks pass*

4 - "Regular" On-Line stores (EE, New Force, Kebco, etc) start to get ship notification and/or the figures start turning up at the Big Retail 3 (Target TRU Wal-Mart).

This pattern has held pretty true for some time, with minor variations for shipping problems, etc.  From the first auctions we see from Asia to Retail stores is usually 4-8 weeks.

Given that we are just hitting about 4 weeks since they turned up on eBay, I'd say that they realistically could start hitting Target/TRU/Wal-Mart any day now really...

For some reason this seems to be going a lot like the Clone Wars line in that the lightsabers show up first, followed by two of the first vehicles and them presumably the figures and VOTC. So if that's the case we can expect figures to shart showing up now in California and nationaly in about a month or so. VOTC is another beast all together but the first ones should show up in mid July.

I'm hoping the grand opening of another Target in two weeks will yield me a nice stash of OTC....that or all the clone war figures you can choke a horse on. :-\

I've searched on ebay, and some auctions are stateside.

Though mostly it's just a bunch of tools who labeled their auctions for Episode I stuff with the OTC moniker. ::)

I haven't seen any yet, but someone in my local collectors club saw something at a store that led everyone to believe that the OTC figures are showing up.

They saw "something."  Any hints?

Hey, Nicklab, that person in your club (in the NJ/NYC area, right) might have seen the OTC stuff at Toy Tokyo.  They had the firrst waves there about 2 weeks ago.

No signs of anything here in St. Louis.

They should have made a new no eye patch Dresselian Commando in the OTC (for me and Dressel Rebel).

Sorry.  That info is from the collector's club I belong to.  We try to keep that kind of info exclusive to our members & contributors.

Tough.  You could ask your buddy if you like.  Too bad we had to revoke his store report priveleges because people ratted him out for being a scalper.

Although I don't think that compares with the creepiness of your stalking tendencies.  Like asking said scalper where I work and live.

I don't know what's going on with you two but do me a favor and make my job easier by taking this situation to PM. I like both of you, you're both good guys from my experience - so I'm sure whatever differences you have you can settle them and still be pleasant.  :-*

Found the OTC X-Wing and TIE Fighter at Shinders in in my hometown of Maplewood.  Didn't buy them but had to go in the back room and mop up after fondling the packaging for a good 10 minutes.  Picked up my copy of ToyFare and left

This stuff might sell just because of how GREAT it actually looks

Shinders is a Comic/Porn/Sportcards/Toy/YuGiOh store and I believe they get their stuff through Diamond (and yeah that says Porn)

We're being overrun by the Hall of Fame wave, so I doubt we'll see any OTC figs for a while.

I'm really starting to wonder what retailer is actually gearing up to carry this stuff. I just hit a local TRU that had pegs full of Nikto Jedi and tons upon tons of POTJ Zutton. Another TRU down the street from me specializes in Watto. All the Walmarts in the area seem to be full of Hoth Wave. Target is close more active, but has a gluttonous amount of the recarded '03 figures.

I simply don't believe that all that merchandise is going to magically disappear in the next few weeks.  :-\
