I gotta agree with Jeff, nothing beats the MN State Fair Curds.  Although fresh curds in Wisconsin are pretty dang good (and squeaky)

There are four major food things at the Fair, the Curds, Fresh Cut French Fries, the Dairy Building with Milkshakes and Ice Cream Sundaes and Buckets of Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Is there anyone from NJ that can re-confirm that something I ate there actually exists, since I've spent years now arguing with people here that it's true, to the point that I don't even believe it anymore?

Years back I had a deep-fried hot dog at Stewart"s (I believe the same Stewarts as the root bear company). Do they still do this? Was I extremely stoned or something?

Actually, there are a few chains in Jersey that deepfry hot dogs.  My favorite is called Callahan's.  Mmmmmm, are they good!!!!

I remember that people in Montreal were really into their "smoked meat". :D

Yep, they are indeed.  I'd heard about Montreal smoked meat my whole life.  Finally got out there in 2000 and went out to try it.

First thing I'll say is it is indeed quite tasty and very good.  But it's just corned beef :-\  All that build up and waiting and it wasn't dramatically different from the last corned beef sandwich I had in a restaurant locally.  Weird.

I always thought it was kind of ridiculous myself.  Being born and bred in NY, you get used to the NY deli fare.  That's all the "smoked meat" in Montreal was, just with a strange, different name.

I give you two great staples of South Jersey / Philly food:

Taylor Pork Roll

and

Scrapple

Both are fried and usually a breakfast meat.  Pork roll is great with mustard and cheese on a roll.  Scrapple, you just fry and eat.  Great stuff.  Definitely miss getting these up here in Mass.

Uh... from the linked story:
"Scrapple may contain pork skin, pork heart, pork liver, pork tongue - even pork brains."

 :o

I'll pass.   ;)

In missouri you can't get See's Candy.
