Spyware (anti) - any suggestions?

Have a new computer, so time to upgrade/install some antispy ware for ye new beast.  Looking for suggestions from the good folks here.  Anything here http://www.spychecker.com/topdownloads.html catch your eye?

This is a DL for Ad-Aware.  It's what I've been using and seems to do the trick for me AOK.

I still use & recommend SpyBot. Best one out there & many other members from other forums have used it with no problems.

I also have the free edition of Pop-Up Stopper. No problems with it either.

Yup, popup stopper was pretty much the first thing I did.  Every page I went to had one, or so it seemed.

I'll agree with Dale... Spybot Search and Destroy works great for me.  I instaled Adaware 6 on my mother's comp. and I don't find it as easy to use....

A combo of both those programs will most always do the trick. All computers that I service for having spy issues are done this way and I am always satisfied with the results.

Ditto here on Spybot and I use AdsGone for those annoying pop-ups.

I tried the Pop-up stopper Free Edition that Dale recommended, didn't work for me.

Sure it would block a pop-up, but everytime it did IE6 would crash for some reason.

Now, it still is IE6,m so who knows WTF that crappy piece of buggy SW is doing!

I need to get a real browser, unfortunately where I live the max speed I can get is 24,600 Kbps on dial up.  No cable, no DSL, no nothing!  Its quiet but my internet life sucks!

Downloading a new browser would take hours!

Today I was looking up some lyrics to lay the smack down on JediMAC...I found the song "Open Arms" by Journey and I accidently hit a pop up window yes button

All hell broke loose, 4 programs started installing at once, 2 of them were really nasty (Virtual Bounce and Ad Destroyer) and were causing browser pop ups and slow down of my computer in general.  I did an Uninstall and deleted what I thought looked suspicious

I had to download 2 different Spy-Bot programs, Norton and something called Ad-Aware and it cleaned up everything.

 I love it that there is war between the "good guys" at places like Norton and Spyware losers

Ad-Aware, I've personally found, to clean EVERYTHING out.

My buddy CorranHorn got me onto the Ad-Aware thing.  It pretty much fixed a problem I had that I was gonna take my PC to get worked on, it was that bad.

I've not needed anything else, so I recommend it to anyone.  I just run Ad-Aware now when I run Scandisk and Defrag once a month.  It's just routine...  Or when I know I got something nasty on (as you did Scott.  That EXACT scenario has happened to me maybe 3 times already).

ad-aware is definitely the best one around. if you get the ad-aware pro version, there is another utility called "ad-watch" that actually monitors your registry, and then blocks and alerts you when malicious code is attempted to be installed. it's saved my ass many times with alert messages.

another good program is spybot:search and destroy. but if you have ad-aware, that's pretty much all you need.

yet another program i would recommend is a utility called hijack this. it does a scan of your computer and alerts you to all programs that you have running at startup. i've found that this sometimes finds some crap that even ad-aware misses. but not too often.

Yep those are the three I have, Spy Bot I had been running for a while, Ad-Aware was great though, bammo!
