jared - do you have the first two robotech remastered box sets? i'm guessing you do, since you bought three and four. i have the last re-issues that they did, all seven box sets (each has two volumes and a bonus disc), and really hesitate to buy any more. is the quality difference worth it?

Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage:[/b]

There was this Japanese Anime TV series call "Robotech" that I started buying on VHS several years ago.

In case you haven't seen it, "Robotech" is about a little town on Earth that gets taken into space in a bubble, and then battles evil aliens with giant robots.

I had purchased around 25 to 30 "Robotech" tapes, when suddenly they were taken off the market. No one could give me a reason why. And because these were continuing stories, I had no way of finding out how that story ended.

Then, about three years ago, I found out they were releasing the series on DVD box sets. I purchased the first three sets, but then found out online that the company that started releasing the DVDs had gone out of business, and the new company had renamed and repackaged the sets.

I believe I had started collecting the "Macross Saga," but the "Robotech" website listed 15 different box sets, including "Robotech Master timeline," "New Generation timeline," "Robotech Remastered," "Robotech Remastered Extended Edition," and "Robotech: The Sentinels".

I have no idea if these are new stories or some of the same old stories repackaged. And I don't have the time or money to spend on all of this. Bottom line, America?

Here, there should be one comprehensive "Robotech" DVD set, so I can finally find out what happens to the little town in the space bubble.

(Got your PM, Brent, and yeah, you can have my old, movie-only copy.  But only after the new one comes out, okay?)

Oh sure, I could deny sending a pm all day and all night, but if you're offering up soft core porn for free, well hey, who am I to complain :-*

Hang on just a second here...  I'll one up Matty's offer, and throw in a very cool poster with my Showgirls DVD Brent, since I'll be upgrading mine as well...   ;)  Matty can even vouch for how cool my poster is.

So, what's the word on the upgrades to Showgirls anyway V?  More Jessie Spanno with (on) her dancin' pals, or what?!

I might have typed that wrong. I think I ordered Robo's 2 & 3.  :-\  Anyway yes, I bought the first Remastered set, and I haven't owned any episodes on DVD previously - the last time I invested in any was on LD. These discs get their video from the restored Macross series which AnimEigo released a while ago, and they're vastly superior in image quality to anything before it. What bites is the audio which is really cheaply done in 5.1 (completely gimicky). I'm a little annoyed that it didn't just ship in one nice complete box, but hey. I'm happy with it though overall.

Here's AnimEigo's restoration comparisons:

Dear Pierre Bernard,

There I was minding my own business at 1 in the morning watching my favorite TV show, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, when lo and behold on comes "Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage." In the past, Mr Bernard, I found your segment to be very engaging and was relieved to know that someone else out there understood the important issues that are facing America today. I finally found a hero who could articulate the frustrations that average folk such as myself are faced with, such as the difficulty of finding the right markers these days or dealing with some of the annoying characters on Stargate SG-1.

However, I was horrified to discover that for this particular episode of the "Recliner of Rage" you decided to pick on Robotech. It started out innocently enough. You stated your enthusiasm for Robotech and described it as a show about "a little town on Earth that gets taken into space in a bubble, and then battles evil aliens with giant robots." Although it was a very rough generalization with minor inaccuracies, it was forgivable. In reality it is a show about a little Chinese girl who saves the world from giant aliens by singing love songs, but it's understandable how you didn't catch that since you have only collected up to episode 25 of the VHS tapes.

However, you claimed that the company that first released Robotech on DVD went out of business. This is completely untrue, as only one company has ever released Robotech on DVD, and that would be ADV. ADV is still going strong today and there was never any indication that they would ever go out of business, unless you count that one time three years ago when I played a prank on our fans and pretended that ADV was going to go out of business before they could finish putting out Robotech on DVD. If you heard these rumors and thought that they were true, relax, there is no need to give me any more guff over it because my boss already yelled at me about it.

On top of this, you claimed to have searched online for information about the Robotech DVDs and that you were confused by the myriad releases with repackaging and remastering. On the top of our website, you could have found the "DVD" link which would have led you to our DVD guide. In this guide, you will see a listing of the different DVD releases with clear explanations that will be understandable even to a graphic designer who has trouble making his own custom Viewmaster reels!

At the very end of your show, you challenged us to come up with a single comprehensive DVD collection of Robotech so that you could find out what happened to the little town in the space bubble. This is my counter-challenge to you, Pierre Bernard: send me your address and I'll send you the complete Robotech series on DVD! Take that, Pierre Bernard!

Kelly will make a guest appearance.  Something to do with carpets :-X

Y'know, if y'all are sending me movies that will make me blush, I could suggest a few other titles for you cough*sinderella*cough if you wanted me too?

This helps ease my pain over the movie covers:

Yum yum... good times. They've also used the original poster art on the inside discs, including the "romance" ESB art. Nice:

Watched “Girl with a Pearl Earring” last night, I must admit to being slightly skeptical at first seeing as how I’m not much of a period ‘Merchant Ivory’ viewer, but dammit this film was really well made- art direction is meticulously adorable, and the photography and lighting is ingenious as most of the shots looked like great classical paintings. I recommend it, and as a bonus it's a film your wife will probably like as well.

This Tuesday looks to be a sneak attack good week for me:

Blazing Saddles SE (12.99 @CC)
Cold Mountain
Land of the Lost Seas.1
GI Joe Seas.1 Pt. 2
South Park Seas. 4

I'm going to have to prioritize these - this is going to be an expensive week... I can tell. I have this sneaky suspicion my online case orders for OTC are going to hit and cause financial dismay, so I've got to be careful with the DVD expenses.

And don't forget to buy this:  ::)

This guy is on his 16th minute of his 15 and is starting to get on my nerves.

I saw that in the Best Buy ad this week...I vaguely remember going to see EP when it came out.  It was good and all but it hasn't stuck with me at all

The English Patient -- Saul Zaentz, Producer
Fargo -- Ethan Coen, Producer
Jerry Maguire -- James L. Brooks, Laurence Mark, Richard Sakai and Cameron Crowe, Producers
Secrets & Lies -- Simon Channing-Williams, Producer  Shine -- Jane Scott, Producer

Of the 5 nominees that year I've seen them all but Secrets and Lies and all of them are more memorable than the English Patient was to me...weird.

I may rent that one again just to see what it was about :P

I DO remember this though

PETERMAN: Elaine, I hope you're watching the clothes, because I can't take my eyes off the passion.

ELAINE: Oh. No. I can't do this any more. I can't. It's too long. Quit telling your stupid story, about the stupid desert, and just die already! Die!!

PETERMAN: Elaine. You don't like the movie?

ELAINE: I hate it!!

CROWD: Shh!

ELAINE: Oh, go to hell!!

PETERMAN: Well, why didn't you say so in the first place? You're fired.

ELAINE: Great. I'll wait for you outside.
