96 Chewbacca

I have a few questions about the collector series Chewbacca.
 It came out in 97 but some were released in a 96 box. Was this fig supposed to come out a year early and does anybody know the ratio of 96 versus97?  Also was the figs the same with only the printing error on the box?

Was this the all plastic Chewbacca?

You know, I will have to check when I get home. I have the 96 version, but haven't looked at it in a long time.

Sorry it is the hairy version.
