Good Luck MOMC Collectors
« on: January 28, 2005, 11:18 AM »
Man, these new cards are going to be a terrible thing for those of us who are MOMC collectors.

The J-hook on there looks like a crease collector
The tab on top of the card is flimsy and will catch on things
The tape (I still can't believe they put tape on the back!) will be all over the board

Plus the fact these babies are almost impossible to open...its going to be a nightmare.  My sympathies :-[

I used a letter opener on my votc figs and they look pretty good. took patience to not tear the paper card front.

Got that right Scott, very flimsy. I had one ROTS figure fall out of my hand & it hit where the J-hook is, put a crease right across the top of the card.  :-\

I even found the the 2 points on Darth's helmet were frayed a bit and some of the bottom corners had small dents.

As for the tape, why so much I mean 1 inch wide! It was kinda hard finding good cards & not with tape that was built up on the back so much.

I also found some of the bubbles were not flush with the bottoms of the cards.  :-\

Yeah, the J-hook is the showstopper, I think. In each instance that I've come across the Preview wave, I've had to sift through pegs and pegs worth of figures in an attempt to find ones that are mint without a crease at the top of the card.

Minty ones are going to be rough at first, considering your news that the basic figs are shipping 1 per case.

LOL!  I guess that does suck for carded collectors.  I still like the look of it.  Not many others do I guess but oh well.

I really don't understand why they taped the sides.  Those plastic edges could have easily gone on the inside of the card and glued just like the bottom plastic edges.  My curiosity got the best of me, and I had to open a General Grievous preview figure, and noticed how the cards were attached.  I'm not incredibly picky, kind of mint-on-almost-mint card, but it sure seems unnecessarily sloppy.

I was a little upset about the "tape factor" as well.  Just got mine from Walmart and was WTF?  Especially with the bottom being glued on they didn't even need it!!
The full line of ROTS will be mine, no questions asked.

The verdict is in for me. I just got 2, and all you have to do is slowly SLOWLY peel the tape off and your fine. Try putting it over a steaming tea kettle to loosen the glue.

Oooh, that's good news! I can't visualize exactly how they're making a case work well with the ROTS card shape and err, "liplessness" at the bottom, but I'll keep the faith regardless.

Check out WholesaleCases.com for the new Star Case 3.  Their site says the cases should be available March 28, so they are currently a preorder.

Ew, that is one ugly case.

Trying to take something that is smooth and rounded and forcing into a rectangular case?  Just looks icky to me.

I hope that someone else comes up with a better design...  :-\

One of the guys in my area group is trying to get an order of 200 cases together, it brings the cost to baout $1.29 ea. incl s&h.

and yeah, carded collectors will have a tough time with these.  the multiple corners on the cardbacks will all be dinged up instantly once they hit shelves. (which also played in to/was one of the reasons I broke down and got these early)  and if you try to stack them in boxes, I ould imagine you'll end up with a lot of bubbles with a "wear" mark right in front of the figure, due to the domed shape of the bubble vs. a flat bubble.
Star Wars and toy Collector since 1978(age 7).  currently over 6,500 SW items in my personal collection. Collect modern/vintage and everything in-between ;^)

I was looking at the Wookiee Warriors at Wal-Mart tonight and noticed scuff marks on all the figures just below the Sneak Preview sticker and above or at the figure's head.

I can only imagine how bad the stuff will look around September.  :o
