A fond farewell, to our dear friend OCB...
« on: February 10, 2005, 09:46 PM »
It's recently been brought to our attention behind the scenes here at JD that we're losing one of our finest...  Actually, the finest.

OCB/Scott is officially hangin' 'em up - both as a Staff Member here at JediDefender, and to a lesser extent, as a collector and forum member as well.  Sometimes our priorities in life evolve, and though Scott's been considering making some changes for a while now, it took that horrible car accident to really bring his decision to fruition.  As a husband and father of two, Scott's going to be focusing on the family more now, as well as some new responsibilities at his job.  Though it deeply saddens us to see him go, we understand his situation and fully respect and support this decision that he's made.  The good news (for us) is that Scott promises to still stop in from time to time to keep up with the old gang here...

Personally, I can't say thanks enough to Scott for all of his contributions both to this site, and even moreso to the greater collecting community as a whole, in which he's become one of it's icons.  Would anyone have ever heard of ICMG without Scott's actions?  Highly doubtful.  Would we have gotten the Blue AND Brown Hoth Hans last year without his fine debating skills and color splotches?  No way.  Would we have ever found out what GNT looks like?  Nuh-uh.  Would you be reading these posts here at JD right now without him molding this community into such a tight-knit group of friends?  Nope.

Scott's the one that brought me aboard 2 1/2 years ago, showed me (and others) the ropes, and helped us turn JD into one of the premiere Star Wars collecting sites on the net.  JD very well might not even exist today, if not for Scott's Herculian efforts.  Not to mention, it's no secret that he's at or near the top of just about everyone's favorite forum member lists out there, and has been for many years.  He's always been the fun, quick-witted, hip collecting compadre that makes this forum go, and to some of us, he's also become a good friend.

So without further ado, and before I get too much more ******' sappy here, let's all show our gratitude for Scott's efforts, and bid a fond farewell to our good friend.  Best wishes in your future endeavors Scott, and you make sure you stop by and visit us from time to time buddy.  We're gonna miss you...   :'(

- Matt

P.S.  We already had a bit of a going away party in OCB's honor the other night.  So cheers to Scott from me, Jared, Deanpaul, and in keeping with JD tradition - of course, the Hooters girls!   ;)

Indeed. The shock has worn off a little, but I'm still bummed – and wishing you and your family the best. :'(

Scott, thanks for all the fun on the forum and the behind the scenes hijinks. And thanks for providing us a theme for our Hooters debachery. I'm still looking forward to hooking up next time I'm in the cities - you're not taking a hiatus from Hooters, right?  :-*

BTW - This is a picture of the Hooters girls when we told them you were taking a break...

...or was that their reaction when we told them what "OCB" stood for?

Well this is just ******* great news, without Scott around that'll mean even more of JediMAC...as if that guy's head (and gut) isn't big enough already  ::)

On a slightly more serious note, Scott, Matt, and Fatty B. are THE reason I came over to JD, and with Fatty MIA and OCB retiring, it feels like an era is ending. I love ya Scott, totally understand your reasoning, but doesn't mean I have to like it  :'(

Maybe you'll pull a Bertha and reappear down the road though!

Hopefully Berry chooses a capable replacement, keeping that pink sweater toting bastard in line is a full time job!

This one.

He and the boys are relatively OK though.  Just got a bit of a wake-up call, I guess you could say...

Aw **** >:(

I'll not pretend to be happy in the least.  Matter of fact, I'm more than a wee bit pissed.  That said, I certainly do understand and wish you all the best Scott.  I'm hoping we don't start some crap about the ghost_of_OCB out of necessity.  More's the pity we never got to chat about Fast Food Nation, I've only been prattling on about that for a couple of years.

The cold hearted bastard in me hates you.  The other side is more than ecstatic for your family.  Good on ya.

And I think a lot of us "adults" understand the reasoning. Even someone as irresponsible as me. It takes a lot of balls to step up to other priorities and take a step back from things like this hobby that can be, really, all-consuming and sometimes unhealthy for a normal life.

Scott, though I've not talked to you often, I've seen how much of an effect you've had here in the community and it will certainly feel the loss of your presence. Best of luck to you on the road of life, we'll be looking for you here on the rest stops!

Cheers!

I'm hoping Scott's going to be making an appearance here some, and not abandoning ship completely...  I think it's possible we'll still be seeing Old Cocky in town yet, so I try not to despair too much.

I don't profess to have come into Star Wars collecting with the goal of making "friends".  When I was asked to come here and be a part of things, I didn't really think it would become (to me) what it is, and that I would look at the rest of the guys I've worked with as great friends.  About the only compliment I can pay Scott that would mean something from my heart is that you DID become a friend to me that I haven't even gotten the chance to meet.  I hope you know that, and that I appreciated working with you.  I think you're the anchor at Jedi Defender, and losing you from the staff is painful to those of us here.

Beyond that, the collecting community is losing one of its best members from not just this site, but from any site, any where, at any point this hobby has existed from Vintage to Modern.  Not really any way I can put that to really make its impact be felt more strongly.  Star Wars collectors in general are experiencing a loss when you step out.

I don't have to hope things are going to go well for you Scott because I know they will, and I know you're going to be here to say hi some, which is all one could wish for from a friend.

I didn't come into this thinking I'd ever care when I knew I wasn't gonna talk to someone often or see them around here, but I will miss seeing you active around here Scott.

Take care, and you'll always have your best friends here no matter what!

'Tis a sad day for the community here.  :(

I'm sure he'll chime in with his thoughts about ROTS, when he sees it. :)

Sad to hear.  Good luck Scott and thanks a lot for helping to make JD the best place on the internet for SW fans.  If it weren't for these forums and the community here, I would have been out by now.
