JD Fantasy Baseball 2005
« on: February 12, 2005, 03:04 PM »
Who's interested in fantasy baseball this year?

It's not quite time to create the league yet, just wondering how many teams we're gonna have this year.

Last year the point system was as follows:

Single = 1 point
Double = 2 points
Triple = 3 points
Homer = 4 points
Stolen Bag = 1 point
RBI = 1 point

Win = 5 points
Loss = - 5 points
Save = 5 points
K = 1 point
BB = -1 point
ER = - 1 point
Shutout = 5 points (in addition to the win)

This year a Win will be 7 points.

Roster positions included:

1B
2B
3B
SS
C
Utility (any hitter)
OF
OF
OF

SP
SP
SP
SP
SP
RP
RP

And 5 bench spots any positions

Does anyone propose any change in the scoring system?

So far I think we have:

Dressel
OCB (pretty sure)
KBZ

And also last year we had:

Matt Carroll
Reconsgt
Rebeltrader
Kingkirk
Nataku

I'd like to join and give you all a better chance at winning. :-*

Now tell me what SP and RP is and I'll be set.

I know the rest.

SP is Starting Pitcher, RP is Relief Pitcher.

I'm in

I guess I'm OK using the same scoring system again

But perhaps...we should put a better innings or game limit on the Pitching to stop the SP/RP dealio

I dunno, even that pitching venture was a risky one.  For example, Jose Jimenez got me 5 saves as a SP/RP, but lost about 7 games for me, and each one came with tons of ER and BB, and few K's to speak of.  THAT was a losing venture.  If a middle reliever suddenly gets thrown into the closers role, why not have a chance to capitalize on it?  Besides, capping the innings won't do much, I had less innings pitched than anyone else last year.

The other thing is, I was thinking that a pitcher gets dinged for -1 when he walks a batter, but a batter gets nothing for a base on balls, which probaby should be good for +1 since it's as good as a single.  What do you think about that?

Also, maybe we should make a Win for a pitcher worth more than +5, perhaps +7?  Because way more bad things seem to happen to pitchers like ER's and BB's and then the loss right now. I know we discussed a possible change to the pitching scoring early into the season last year, but it's best to just play under the rules set at the time of the draft.  But now we have a chance to make minor corrections to the scoring.

Confirmed we have:

OCB
Dressel Rebel
Famine
KBZ

Need to hear from:

Matt Carroll
Rebeltrader
Reconsgt
Nataku
Kingkirk
Anyone else who's interested

8 teams would be okay, 10 would be better.  We settled for 7 last year, but we already have Famine and KBZ who weren't in last year.

I can prove my ignorance in yet another sport, if necessary.  I think chuckles may be up for it too.

I'd remove the 5 points for the loss since it's basically the only negative category in terms of scoring that you have.  There isn't a negative for hitters (like striking out.)  Just a suggestion.

There's actually also -1 for a BB and -1 for an ER from pitchers too.

And does this mean you're in?
