Gammorean Guard, was there new paint apps?
« on: February 18, 2005, 03:20 PM »
Hi All,

I came across an OTC Gammorean Guard this morning at Walmart, for $1 I wasn't going to say no. But when I got home, opened it up and compared it to my POTF2 Gam Guard, they looked pretty much the same. I've seen pics online showing that the OTC version was supposed to have newer detailed paint applications. But mine surely doesn't, maybe a little bit around the face. But the pics I see show better detailing on the outfit. Did I somehow get a poorly painted version, or did the Hasbro not go with the more detailed paint apps?

Thanks!
Jason F.

Could it be a resealed return? The OTC pigs were definitely repainted and the differences are obvious.

Here's a nice comparison picture from Rebelscum:

2 Little Piggies

The OTC has an orange-y shirt with deco on the center plate, as well as darker green skin and yellower teeth.

Definitely different, Jason.  The OTC one looks a lot nicer.

Maybe Ook's right, and you got a good reseal...?  I definitely saw that more than a few times on the pegs with the repainted OTC figures being swapped out in favor of old, crappy POTF2 ones.

Well if someone did a reseal, they did a freaking great job of it cause it looked ok to me, no evidence of tampering. What's funny though was the figure was only a buck, not worth the effort to swap out. Well sucks that this happened, but I did get another Gam Guard for my Jabba's Palace for next to nothing.  ;D

What is the deal with resealing and returning anyway?

I've found quite a few packs of GI Joe figures with figures swapped out, and in some cases, the figures that replaced them were vintage RAH Joes that didn't suck. Hell, one was even a Cross Country figure, which was a vehicle pack-in in the old days.

And all the figures were in beautiful condition. Go figure. ::)

Some people have this tendency to believe the more recent the toy, the better it must be. That definitely sounds like the case with your GI Joe swap. In my case, the swap wasn't worth the effort, the Gam Guard cost $1, why waste the time swapping it ya know.
