JD Fantasy Hockey 2005
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:45 PM »
Since I don't want to run a football leauge, I'd be willing to run a hockey league on JD/Yahoo.  I'm presuming they have hockey on Yahoo, we've typically used a different online site, but for consistency and since we're running other pools on there, I thought it simplest to stay.

Usual point schemes are remarkably easy except for the goalies:

1 goal = 1 point
1 assist = 1 point

Goalies:
1 goal = 5 points
1 assist = 5 points
win = 2 points
tie = 1 point
shutout = 3 points.

In the past, we've run goalies/shutouts at 5 points but that tends to make them the best players on the team in terms of points.  A 3 point line for a shutout means a good goalie is still important, but not absolutely critical.  I'm open to all manner of suggestions regarding goalie point scoring schemes.

Typically we draft 10-12 players, one of which must be a goalie.  We can increase that number if you like, but we usually only use three spares (two skaters, one goalie) in addition to whatever we're allowed to start.  Sort of a draft 'em and live with 'em unless they're hurt scheme.

I'd like to see the roster expanded because if say 4 guys get hurt, you won't be able to put a full squad out there.  The point system in hockey is pretty simple if you just stick with those categories.  I'm sure you can get crazy and add stuff like a point for a plus, minus point for a minus (plus/minus category), etc.  PM me and we can talk about stat categories, but consider me in.  Yahoo says they will start accepting sign ups in August for hockey now that the CBA is final and play will start in October.

Do you guys have a preference for officepools versus yahoo?  I've never played on yahoo before but I imagine it's pretty similar to the other sports in application.  I don't think officepools is free.

Room for more folks, ought to be one hell of an unusual year.  Great potential for lots of excitement.  But should we cap the league so as not to dilute the teams too much?  10-12 teams max?

I prefer Yahoo, but only because it's the only one I've ever used and because I can control that team from the same page as my football and baseball teams.

But that's just me, if everyone else wants to go somewhere else I'm down.

I'm unfamiliar with both, so anything works for me.

Is there a link on Yahoo for fantasy leagues?  I've searched their main page and can't find it (I'm sure it's there, just blindness setting in).

As for the number of teams, I'd say 12 would be a good max.  Any idea when the draft would begin?  (I know it's early yet, what with so many players still signing, but I gotta do some homework... ;))

Thanks Rob.

For anyone needing a summary of the signings so far, check out Yahoo.

Ok, looks like the season starts on around October 5th.  I'd like to have at least a week prior to that to enter the teams, so about the latest we can finish is around the 28th.

I'm leaning towards Yahoo, mostly because I know it will be free and I know officepools isn't.  Having never done a pool on Yahoo, I'll have to wait until they set it up to see how they have the layout.  Once we know that and the default scoring plan, we can figure out any changes we want to make and about how many rounds/how long the draft will take.

So, does this mean you're going to be the JD equivalent of Bettman?  Oh, this is going to be a problem...   ;D
