I think all you have to do is switch Free for all to Teams in the multiplayer menu. But my memory's a little faint since my brother took Halo 2 and the XBox to College with him.

Are you referring to playing online?
There is a 2v2 Team setting on X-Box Live.
If you want to play just with some friends on 1 X-Box, just go to "Options" and set it up for "team" match.  I forget the exact steps you need to do, but I think it's pretty simple.
If that doesn't work, just go to the "Settings" from the menu screen and go to "Game Types".  From there you can create new game types and you can make one of them a "Team" game.

If you're playing online (X-Box Live or X-Box Connect), look me up:
my Gamertag for both is:

If you're talking about on Xbox Live, The playlist you're looking for is called "Double Team".

To get there:

Log on to Xbox Live.
Select Matchmaking.
Choose the Double Team playlist.

You'll be matched against another group of 2

Now...if your friend isn't an Xbox Live subscriber, you're only going to be able to play in the "practice" playlists with him as your guest.

Maybe that's what you're experiencing?

XBOX live, man it's been a while since I've played Halo on Live, since the very begining of March I believe. I went from playing everyday to quitting cold turkey. I play on XBOX connect from time to time but it has been a long time since I've played halo.

Josh are you guys still in the Dark Side clan?

Yeah, but we've only played about 3 or 4games since they reset the ranks in march or april.
I'm never quitting that clan though.   ;D

Why XBox Live sucks (may not be safe for work).
