I know this will be blasphemy to many, but I grew up reading both DC and Marvel, and I just don't think the DC "universe" is as... cohesive as the Marvel 'verse.

I think a film with Batman AND Superman would be strange...  I never really bought into the team-ups in DC comics as I did with the Marvel books.  I am admittedly more of a Marvel fan, but I do love Bats and Supes, but I think the second tier of the DC characters are a HUGE drop-off compared to Marvel's next tier.  I love the Nolan films and I even liked Superman Returns...

But people clamoring for a Flash film?  Meh.  Would you go see a Quicksilver film?  Green Arrow?  Now looks like a second rate Hawkeye.  They couldn't get Green Lantern right, and he has far more interesting powers than Flash does.  Lantern is the only one after DC's big 3 of Bats Supes and WW that could have been capable of mainstream success.

I definitely think that Warner needs to offer Kevin Feige the keys to the studio when his Disney/Marvel contract nears its end.  The current creative powers at Marvel are miles ahead of DC.

Yeah - I about fell our of my chair at the suggestion of an Aquaman movie.   ;D

The only bright side for DC comics as a whole these past 5 or 10 years or so has been the Nolan movies.  Just about everything else has been a catastrophic failure.  I haven't followed what's happened with sales since the new 52 (though I did roll my eyes when I saw that in a couple months they're doing 0-numbered issues of everything), but I know the critical reaction has been mostly negative.  They just seem to be making one stupid decision after another.  From what I've seen of the new Superman movie, I don't have high hopes.

Doing a Justice League movie FIRST?  That makes no sense to me at all.  The main reason Avengers worked so well was because we already knew all the characters.  You could argue everyone knows Supes/Batman/WW/GL/Flash, etc... but they don't know them as movie characters.  It might end up feeling about the same as a Bay Transformers movie...

I'd be curious to know what DC Fans think about dropping all the existing stories and starting from scratch.  No do-overs or alternate universes or reboots...just decide that in December every issue will wrap and they will just start over with brand new stories in January.  Pick 15-20 books, give the characters origin stories and build from there with none of the 0 issue gimmicks or baggage from their recent mistakes.  Just a fresh start on EVERYTHING.  It seems to me that they have so screwed up that universe that just dumping everything would be the best move they could make right now.

I honestly wouldn't mind that even from a Marvel perspective.  The stories have gotten out of hand with all these crossovers and mix-mashes.  Hey, let's put Captain America on the X-Men!  Give me a break.  There's no real character development - they tried having Hawkeye hook up with Spiderwoman, but they could only squeeze it into a few panels of a few issues, then totally forgot about it.  They keep killing off characters and bringing them back (Herculeus, Captain America, Thor - how many times has Thor "died" now?).  When I was growing up Thor got majorly wounded and had to wear armor and grow a beard to hide his wounds.  Give me a hundred of those, but don't give me dead-not dead-dead-not dead crap.  It takes away any risk or concern for the characters.

Anyway, just an idea.  If you're going to muck with the history anyway, why not just start over and do it right.  I think you'd grab some new people and I'm sure a lot of fans would still want to tune in to see how their favorite characters develop from a new beginning.

I grew up more of a Marvel kid as well (and continue that way today), but I do read both universes these days.  Aside from Batman/Detective, I don't think I had a DC comic until I was an adult.  I can sort of see the point of the universe cohesiveness though, and although I hate to use the term again, but "grounded" quality of the MU does help a bit when translating to live action I think.  Batman works great, as he is more of that type of character too, but it might be difficult to see the others.  I also agree that WB/DC missed the boat with Green Arrow.  He is arguably much better known than Hawkeye (prior to the Avengers), but now most non-comic people are going to think he's a "rip off" of Hawkeye.

That said, even being more of a Marvel person, I'd like to see more DC stuff make it to the big screen as well.  I know they've already confirmed a "reboot" of Batman after the Nolan trilogy, and I guess that is expected.  I will say, for as amazing as the Nolan movies have been (and they are), if we do see a re-do of Batman again I wouldn't mind something that allows for things like Dick Grayson/Robin, Batgirl, and some of the other less-dark/grounded aspects of that universe.  My favorite interpretation of the Batman world has always been the Animated Series, and I'd like to see something similar to that tone for the movie universe if they are going to move away from the current darker take.

So, looks like Guardians of the Galaxy has been officially announced (and titles for some other Marvel movies):

Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ant Man

Apparently these movies are all part of Marvel's "Phase Two" (with the previous batch up to and including Avengers being Phase 1).  Also, Iron Man's armor from IM3 (rumored to be based on the Extremis storyline) was revealed:

On the DC side of things, there was a Man of Steel poster debut with the trailer rumored to be attached to Dark Knight Rises next week:

Sounds like Bryan Singer himself has confirmed that the X-Men: First Class sequel will be titled "Days of Future Past" and at least loosely based on that storyline from the comics.

Obviously, I'm sure it will be significantly different from the comic story, but it does allow them to link up with the other movies (and possibly cast) if they want to.  It definitely leaves them an out to bring in Hugh Jackman to this universe which is sort of/not really a reboot I guess.

Actually they already brought in Hugh Jackman in the last movie.  When Charles and Eric are going around recruiting, there is a cameo by Jackman where he tells them to f*** off.

I loved that cameo as well, I was just thinking he could have more of a role in the next movie if they went with a Day of Future Past storyline.

I read about the Days of Future Past storyline in the past few days.  That was easily my favorite X-Men storyline of all time, and I've always felt a good degree of attachment to it.  But are we bound to see some significant changes to that particular story in order to make it work on screen?

Ellen Page has definitely come into her own as an actor since she played Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand.  Will she and Wolverine still be the central characters in the movie adaptation?  And then there's the matter of the relationships.

There's clearly a continuity that's been established by the previous films that diverges from the books.  The film interpretation of the Phoenix storyline had to be scaled back tremendously.  But this story dealt with someone travelling from the future to the past in order to change the course of history.  How do you accomplish that in the movie and make it work?  That remains to be seen.

As Brian reported, the sequel will be "loosely based" on that storyline.  I'm sure they will need to make significant changes, just like First Class was a big departure from the comic origins.  I think it's a great direction for the franchise if they can make it work.  Really, all they need to do is adopt "The Terminator" blueprint, which should be even easier with an established cast.

Marvel and Fox discuss Silver Surfer/Galactus swap for DD extension:

http://www.newsarama.com/film/marvel-fox-character-swap-galactus-daredevil.html

Apparently Marvel Studios is discussing a deal with Fox that would allow them to get an extension on their in development DD movie (they lose the rights Oct 10 or something I believe I read) in exchange for the return of the movie rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus.  I'd like to see them get the entire F4 back (really, all of the Marvel characters back), but this seems like a good movie - particularly with them going more cosmic with Guardians of the Galaxy.

UPDATE: Apparently FOX is denying this now, so who knows what's going on

As long as Galactus isn't a %^&* cloud again, it has to be a step up.
