Finally......The End
« on: November 22, 2005, 09:31 AM »
Okay, so who has completed the ROTS run and who is as happy as myself that this series is over.  I found it fun in the beginning but the series got old for me. I think this may of been the biggest series for a movie in one style packaging.  Unless you count the first SAGA series which included all movies combined ???

Man, I've been done for a while and quite pleased about it too. I was just saying that I've been glad to be done with the endless hunting, but now I hear about updated Gree and Bly repaints. >:( Bah! Now I have to go looking for another stinking Bly because he's supposed to be more movie accurate. Gree doesn't sound like there's much difference, so I might pass. But, once again, it seems I have at least one more ROTS fig to find....

I too was collecting the variants but I dropped doing so about a month ago and got rid of all mine.  Too much a pain in the a$$.  Running changes fine, variants ehh.

Sometimes I think Hasbro reads all these sites and sees the desire for people to collect variants and its all part of the marketing plan to suck people dry.  Think about it.  What kid who likes SW gives a crap about some of these minor changes ???

There has really been a lot of great stuff this year, and just a whole lotta stuff overall.  Too much actually, at least for me.  I'm looking forward to being caught up, but I'm not quite there yet.  Aside from the "twins" packs from WM that should be coming up, I need to find 3 more ROTS figures (all from the final 5 - 501st, R4, Wookiee Gunner).  I kind of look forward to getting those last few as well, just to feel "done" with the ROTS line for the most part.  After that, just bring on the twin packs and then onto The Saga Collection.  It has been a great year for collectors with all the product out there, and some real nice figures, but it has been a bit overwhelming at times to try and keep up.

Personally I liked this line quite a bit and am sort of sad to see it go.  Not that I think there are tons more ROTS figurses left unmade or anything like that.  I just really enjoyed it.  The last hurrah and all that.  I just liked the assortment of nice Jedis, Clonetroopers, Wookies.  However, I am ready for the OT stuff.

It's been interesting and much to my surprise, the entire first 56 made it to Canada.  Pretty cool as I wasn't expecting it.  Naturally though we got the shaft on the last 12 figures (thanks Jeff) which is consistent with Hasbro in Canada - there has not been a single line where the entire series has shown up in the great white north (flashback cards maybe).

I didn't mind the changes so much, the shock trooper and 501st were great additions.  Even the #33 changes were interesting though I thought they went overboard with the black pilot.

I personally can't be bothered with all the variations, we don't have enough flow of material up here to see it all.  For perspective of my American friends the shock trooper was like the release for the VOTC stormtrooper - if you were out the week they showed up at retail it was positively heavenly.  If you missed that one single week they were around you were screwed.  For VOTC they were available at retail for a period of only 4 days and I drove all over the city managing to gather up 19 VOTC stormtroopers.  They never showed up again.  Same deal for the shock trooper.  I scored 17 total from about a dozen stores and haven't seen them since.  Blech.

My biggest gripe with this series though is and will remain the packaging.  I'm an opener but I try to help out the carded guys and a couple of guys outside of Canada.  I see these cards as a nightmare from the start and only getting worse.
- the small, easily bendable side edges - mint is nearly non-existent, even when pulled fresh from a case
- the tape on the back is inconsistently and carelessly applied giving a crappy, uneven look to the back and bottom of the package
- that same tape is going to yellow with time - it might be 5-10-15 years down the road, but it's going to look like ****

I suppose Hasbro really does believe these are for the kids, since that card was clearly not thought up from a collector viewpoint.  I think it looks nice enough, but have fun keeping it nice in the long run.

I've just got a few more ROTS figures to go from the Final 12 and then I'm done this line (thanks Jeff and Matt).

It was a great line for the most part - great sculpts, improved articulation - but I certainly won't be sad if we never see action features again.

I'm done except for the twins, and then some extras that I want like I picked up 5 more SA 41's for customs etc.
I have to agree with packaging comments. I open also so I know in the long run it won't bother me, but for friends who collect on card, I feel sorry because I think these are going to be very difficult to keep in mint condition.
Overall I have enjoyed this line, new figures, some with great likeness and articulation (Obi Wan Pilot). Have to agree though, NO MORE action features please! Guess I need to break down and buy my Mas Ameddas to close it out though. I have just had a hard time buying that figure!

I agree that the packaging sucks on these.  Glad that part is over. My couple of complaints regarding the figs include the action features.  I did not like any of them.  Both Yoda's blew IMO.  The Obi-Wan Pilot was great and the Anakin Evolution was excellent, although it would of been nice to have this as a basic fig in the collection.  And once again Mace fails >:(  Another thing that bugged me was the final 5 figs.  Most of these should of been running changes from the first 56.    Either that or the Green Cmmdr, Shocktrooper, Black Pilot, Guards and the first Wookie variation should of had seperate numbers.  It just makes the numbering system for these figs out of place.

Regarding the Seperation of the Twins and the StarWarsShop Clone, I still am not sure whether I would include either into the ROTS series due to such a difference in the cardbacks.   Not sure where the C3 Vader falls in either.  Where as the other exclusives shared identical cardbacks.

I've got them all... but keep buying more army builders here and there and a few for customs and diorama filler.  Just can't get enough of this line; to me it's the best line they've ever done.  Nothing else comes close.

I've only seen ONE of the final 12 figures so far, and that's the Nemoidian Commander. I know they're shipping here, I just keep missing them. Then I'm sidetracked because I find the newest exclusive and/or Evolutions set and have to wait a few weeks to get the cash flow back up.

Sigh.

There are so many good figures and so many customizing options.  I just got another AT-RT driver so I can paint it all white like some of the newest customs I've seen.  I'll still get more #41 clones too.  They are just that good.  ;)  Definitely the best line ever!

Besides, "variations" get me especially when they are good running changes like the Shocktrooper on the #6 body, the "new" Bly with the dark stripe on his helmet (much more movie accurate).  I have 2 Blys and 1 Custom Bly and I'll still get this new version.  They are just that good...Do I keep saying that?  Yep, they are just that good!  Lucas really hit me in the pocket book when he decided to make "proto-stormtroopers" with different colors!  If he had stuck with the plain white all the way through it would be a much different story...
