Uncle Gundy and his minty card have now officially joined my DROIDS posse. All hail!

I'm jumping into collecting vintage carded figures again - but with a twist. I'm not sure if any of you read about my "project", but I got my first carded figure for it today - one of my favorites as a kid:

ROTJ AT-ST Driver probably a C5/6 card for $15
- figure itself look great
- bubble is fully attached to the card with no dents
- slight yellowing to the bubble
- card is punched, wavy, veiny and fray but I love it.

I liked the feature idea Jayson...  the poor man's way to have a vinty carded collection, which is really neat I think.  It proves that it's totally doable too, which I think a lot of folks didn't really consider carded vintage viable at all.

I have one carded figure...  One lone pristine 12-back R2-D2...  When I got it, I drifted away from vintage a bit, wanted to just focus on modern and loose vinty as I see them and want to upgrade.  This makes me think I should just ease my standards on carded stuff up though, and buy up the beat up figures I want instead, and not worry so much about every variation and whatnot.

I think this is a cool idea too, but at some point I think you are going to be stuck looking at some hefty prices, card condition notwithstanding. I mean, even Yakface on a crappy card is going to command a premium.

I am doing more or less the same thing with the DROIDS line right now and am facing the same eventuality. There is no way around getting gouged for a carded Fett or Sise Fromm, unfortunately.

I look forward to hearing more on your progress!

Yeah, I realize there will be a few figures that will be tough to acquire, but ultimately the goal is to get them as cheaply as possible and it'll be nice not to have to consider card condition when trying to find them.

Cool project Jay!  Is the AT-ST your first or did you already have some vintage that will qualify?  Is that vinty toy store on the North side still open?  I'd be game for going to check it out sometime if you're up for it.

No, not my first. I have 8-10 other carded figures that I bought years ago that will count as part of the project. I haven't been to that vintage store in a while but definitely need to make a trip up there.

Cool project Jayson.  Personally, I consider that card in pretty nice shape and think $15 is a hell of a deal!

Interesting and it will be fun to watch and see how it goes.  ROTJ should be quite easy for the most part but I'm less enthusiastic about the rest.  POTF will be tough regardless of card condition I think as you'll be running up against the AFA uncirculated crowd at that point.  ESB and SW cards too.

Thanks guys. I hope that since card condition is not a priority for me, I should be able to avoid bidding wars with folks looking for AFA quality pieces. I too am excited about the ROTJ cards as those are the ones I have the clearest memories of buying and subsequently tearing the figure from.

Here's a four more I got last week (from the same seller - so cheap shipping):
Lobot: $6.01

Teebo: $20.00

Klaatu: $9.07

Klaatu Skiff Guard: $7.49

=================
Then one more yesterday

Nikto: $16.00 (image from ebay)

Picked up a carded Jord Dusat for a good price today. I actually had bought one a few weeks ago but the SOB backed out of the auction and returned my money. I ended up getting a mintier one for five bucks cheaper, good karma for sure.

Picked up a carded Jann Tosh today to keep plugging away at my Droids collection. I may as well savor this because the remianing few I need, for the most part, are going to be very pricey.
