I know. I don't get why everyone is pissing and moing about these Variants.

Kevin

Yeah I've seen substantially more moaning than pissing, and for this I am grateful.

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal is on that ARC trooper. GH said an ARC with grey deco, so my first thought was some kitbash from the CW ARC. But from the "birdseye view" on the image, it just looks like the #33 ROTS Clone Commander with new paint. *sigh*

So is it merely a repainted CC that they're trying to pass off as an intermediate stage in between ARCs and ROTS Cmdrs? Or what? (FYI, being a Clone Wars fan I take this ARC trooper **** very seriously.)

I suppose it hardly matters since I'll never ever see one of these at retail.

Again, I think this was another miscommunication from a Hasbro rep trying to describe something before the figures were unpacked and on display...

I don't think it is meant to be an ARC Trooper, but a Gray Clone TRooper from RotS... although with the removable helmets these have, you could probably put the Ep2 Helmet on him and just call him an ARC.   ;)

Not surprising, since the dumbasses don't even know which way the Naboo Fighter is supposed to face.  Scope out the Titanium pix, and you'll see that they set the thing up backwards.  No wonder the Star Wars brand is going to hell in a handbag.  I'm not sure if some of these clowns have even seen the freakin' movies...  ::)

^^ Aha, thanks Jeff, that would make more sense.

So, a new "sorta-EU" clone commander along the lines of the green repaint recently announced?

although with the removable helmets these have, you could probably put the Ep2 Helmet on him and just call him an ARC.   ;)

I may well do that.

In fact, on that same note, I already have plans for putting the "Felucia grunt" gold helmet (from the first set) on the AOTC gold commander body (from the first set)--to replicate Commander Bly from Republic #68:

This is basically an intermediate stage between the AOTC and ROTS systems, with the ROTS helmet but the ranking system being the same as AOTC.

Clone evolution variations! Awsome. EE has the 4th case assortment of the Evolutions sets listed as a case of 4 clonetroopers. Could be promissing.

Indeed, that may be worth a pre-order.

Crap, looks like the "variant" white AOTC Trooper is using the AT-TE gunner mold.  :-\  Yea=ball jointed hips, removable helmet; Nay=swivel shoulders/elbows, no waist articulation.  >:(

My bet is the AOTC (yellow) Commander is not based on the CW/#41, but the Red Clone Commander mold. Both the AOTC Commander and Grey/Bly Trooper appear to have no waist articulation.

Also of note, the Grey/Bly Trooper are missing the "pouch band" the goes around the Red Clone Commander's right arm.

I'll tell you what, seeing all the sets in person, they look sweet! Even in the packaging. The varient clone set was displayed loose and I don't recall the articulation set up, all I remember is the the pose was very nice. Also, the newly sculpted, movie accurate blaster rife on the Sandtrooper is a very nice addition.

I'm not even sure what to call this guy, since he doesn't have rank or legion striping, and on Felucia the infantry had the shoulder thingies too. My guess is he's a regular grunt of some sort, and not a commander at all. Or perhaps I could appoint him commander of all the white #6s and #41s.

While it's somewhat disappointing (I'd been hoping for a really good-quality SA ARC, not like that statue we got before) he does look nice and I'm also oddly relieved. It becomes easier on me since I won't be in "panic mode" to find this, which I would have been if it was an ARC. Now I won't blow a gasket in the fairly likely event I never see it.

*crosses fingers for getting individually carded SA ARCs someday....*

Just a note I wanted to throw in here...

Valin, I changed your post to one of our photos here at Jedi Defender.

You can find our stuff here at our Sandiego Comic Con Coverage area.

Other sites are funny about using their photos and such though, and since we have our men in the field out at Comic Con (and that's a higher res picture too) I figure I'd just point some folks in the right direction on that stuff.

Thanks, carry on.  :)

It's ok Valin, just doing the mod gig is all...  :)  I'll include some more Evolutions shots just to give everyone a collecting woody before bedtime.

The Sandtrooper's BFG rocks all.  The Lewis Gun they have is one of my favorite weapons in the films.  I envision it being a prized weapon among the Rebels too...  And one that's like the German MG's that were mounted on everything from BMW cycles to King Tigers.

And indeed, that white Clone looks like nothing more than the AT-TE Gunner.  I dunno how I feel about that.  If the EE 4-packs were affordable to army build, I'd feel fine.  They're not though, and I'm not sure that I want a HUGE army of the TE Gunner body as the base.  It's ok, but not the best.

The Sith Set is easily the weakest looking.  Dooku looks to be the best of the set, and Maul has appeal but the gritting of the teeth is a bit much...   :-\  Palpatine is the same with his expression.  Yikes.
