I understand that there's a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa...

I believe it has to do with the chocolate involved.

In order for it to be "real" Hot Chocolate, you need to use actual chocolate that has been shaved/chopped and melted into milk.

If you are using cocoa powder or some variant of chocolate, it's just Hot Cocoa.

Or something like that...

I understand that there's a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa, just as I also understand that there's a difference between a latte and a cappucino.  However, I don't understand exactly what those differences are.

Anybody know, or shall I pull up Wikipedia?

Don't know a great deal about cappucinos but aren't they basically espresso drinks with a bit of froth on top whereas a latte is a shot of espresso and about 2/3 to 3/4 steamed milk with a little bit of foam?  Was never really into Starbucks or paying 4-5 bucks for a cup of coffee.

I've never stepped foot into a Starbucks in my entire life, and now, thanks to my Tassimo machine, I'll never have to.

Thanks for the cocoa/chocolate clarification, Jeff.  Am I to believe that hot chocolate is to be considered "better" than hot cocoa?

And thanks for the help with lattes and cappucino, Tamidala.  To be honest, I still really don't get it, though.  I start seeing terms like "froth" vs. "foam," and "steamed milk" and stuff like that, and after a while, my eyes just kind of start to glaze over.  I guess that's why I've never been much for Starbucks.  Too complicated for a relative simpleton like myself.

Funny this comes up.  I've been drinking a cup of cocoa almost every night since last week or so.  Good stuff.

I like cofee fine, but rarely drink it.  If I do, it's after a big meal.  I don't like it in the mornings at all. . turns my stomach sour.

Wifey, though, lurves the stuff in the morning so we brew a pot in the Bunn almost every day.

I also don't like it piping hot. . .warm is good.  I remember my grandfather used to pour a cup and immediately pop it in the microwave.  Gyah!!!  Especially in the summer.  The hotter it was outside, the more coffee he drank.

Usually it's cocoa or hot tea for me.

What was your question?

Hot Toddies?

I wouldn't know--I haven't had one of those since I was a small child, and my parents would give me some to help "calm me down."

I was able to say the same until one sub-zero day 3 years ago in Vienna.  The girlfriend and her family all decided to get something hot and I was obliged to go with them.  Go figure...I ended up with a hot chocolate.

According to Wikipedia a cappuccino is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 foamed milk.  A latte is 1/3 cappucino and 2/3 steamed milk.

OK smartass, what would you do if this came up:

I'll say "would you care for a warm beverage?"

And they'll say "yes, yes I would."

And then I'll say "well, what would you like?"

And then they'll say "A Hot Toddy"

I've save you the trouble, here is the wikipedia page

Hot Toddy for me! If we're talking special occasions, like catching a cold.

Everyday though, its coffee, no sugar.

Hot tea for the hottie? OMG, that's just sick!

My favorite would be the "steamer".

I hear that the ones made in Cleveland are the best.

Our local coffee house has a drink called a "steamer" which is a very smooth hot chocolate, made latte style.  Its super.

Yes.  I was in a coffee house in Chattanooga with friends and they had a Chocolate Steamer on the menu.

I couldn't stop sniggering at it, and was barely controlling a guffah.

In my mind, there was this dialogue going on:

Me - "I'd like a Dirty Sanchez"
Coffe girl - "Sir?"
Me - "Chocolate Steamer. . .whatever."
