Group Ideas Thread for Figure Questions - Headless Mon!
« on: January 23, 2006, 12:21 AM »
Every once in a while, I start wanting to make a figure, but can't find the parts I am happy with... so I thought that maybe when someone has a figure they are working on, and are stuck on what to do, you can post a CLEAR pic of it and ask for suggestions.

First of, Headless Mon.

I'm looking for a head to put onto Ephant Mon... any ideas?  I'm thinking of a Cave Troll from the LOTR line maybe, but don't want to spend that much money to get one.

Here's what he looks like without a head right now.

And a digital image with a Cave Troll head.

Who wants to offer advice?   :)

I have an Ephant on a damaged card here that I couldn't trade away and basically wondered what I could do with it too.  I've brainstormed and come up with nothing.

Short of adding a new head from another toy line, I'm stumped.

I can't even think of a species his form closely matches.

So, I've been thinking about this.  I think the Cave troll is a good idea.  However, other thoughts I had.  Maybe a 12" Emperor head.  Also consider some Marvel larger scale figures (Thing from the Fantastic Four??).  Obviously, since the neck posts are in different parts of the body, some sculpting would be necessary to blend them together.  Anyway, just some random thoughts.

I have an extra Opener Ephant also.  I was wondering what you could do with it... now this thread will help answer some questions.

One of those Large Wizard things from the Dark Crystal would be cool, but I wouldnt know what to use for a head on this. Meditate upon this I must.

Hmmm... maybe you could make a Hermi Odle out of that body? I can't imagine that head being very hard to sculpt. Just a lump of clay basically.

I'm using one of my spare Ephont Mons thusly:

This is a WIP I'm currently calling "Snake Mon", but that name will change after I decide on a species name and cultural background for him :)

The torso and arms are, of course, our oversized friend Ephont Mon. The lower body (tail) and hands are from a "Spawn" figure named "Sansker". The head is an original "Jurassic Park" Dimetrodon. The spiked club is from a "Spawn" Ogre. The neck scarf (to hide the slight gap between the back of the Dimetrodon head and Ephont Mon's flat neck area) was trimmed from the first POTF2 Obi Wan Kenobi. The belt is a wide ruberband with a buckle from a "Maxx Steel" mountain climbing harness.

I am still deciding on a colorscheme for him. I'm thinking a dark burgundy with red or orange highlights for the flesh simply to get away from all of the green/brown/tan reptiloids we always see in sci fi films/toys.

Whadda ya think?

Holy smokes, way to put whatever I come up with to shame!  That's outstanding.  For a color scheme, I like your orange/brown tint idea a lot.  What a great use of parts!  That is one evil looking creature!

 >:( Spectre, what the HELL did you do to that Dimetrodon? For shame.

Famine, I know, but I thought you suggested a Pteranoden type head, which could still work.  I think a sauropod head would really look cool.

I'm looking for something bulkier, but I think I have found what I need though.

I saw a new(?) Spawn figure this morning at Wal-Mart.  He has a very fat human-like head on it.  It may fit and look good.  I'll see if I can find a picture.

Spectre - Nice use of parts for that custom!

CHEWIE - I think you should hit up a Suncoast - a lot of them have/had Spawn figures on clearance.  I was able to pick up some demon looking guy for $4 (I think it was Tremor, but I'm not sure).  That head would work great on the Ephant Mon body.

Thanks for the ideas guys.  I did hit a Suncoast yesterday, but couldn't find anything that seemed like it would work (at least based on their selection).

I did get a Cave Troll from LOTR and another Mastage beast for possible heads through ebay, they're not here yet but should be here next week.

I'm thinking about modifying the Cave Troll some though to be some sort of giant Star Wars alien race for a photonovel.
